The lights on a village's Christmas tree made of stacked fishing creels have been switched on.
Ullapool's unusual 4.8m (16ft) tall festive decoration was first constructed for last winter.
Note: Instead of an Angel on the top it has a crab.

I would've expected this to be Massachusetts or one of those other hell holes up north honestly.

You put a fairy at the top of a Christmas tree, not an angel.
That looks pretty cool, though I think they should have had an elevated base. It kind of just looks like a big blue cone.

It depends where you are
fishing communities and holidays, here for new years eve we drop a big 20 foot long fiberglass walleye off the tallest building in town while everybody gets drunk and freezes to death in the sub zero F weather
great display all around probably a pain to have lit

Some towns like Gloucester Ma do this, somewhat popular in Maine for sure.
Seasons Greetings from one hell hole to another.

A lot of Northern towns are pretty close to the lobster states.
I've never heard them referred to as creels before, only crab pots and crab traps

Pretty sure the birth of Jesus had no fairies involved...

More of a Scottish thing, I think. Here in Scotland we only use the term creel. Crab pot/crab traps is something we would consider the American term for them, however accurate that assumption is.
Lots of fishing towns round here will have a restaurant or bar named the "The Creel Inn" or something similar.

The use of the word erect, I'm not an adult at all.
They erect a christmas tree, yeah I bet they do, make sure it's hard and sturdy though, don't want it going flaccid I mean falling over.

This is a common usage though. Erecting a building, erecting a sentry...

Have you never heard the word erect used outside of referring to ones penis?
Very rarely.
