I know the graphics aren't that good, but i still love the game nearly unlimitedly.
It's just that
1.) It's made by VALVe. +10 points from that.
2.) Story is pretty damn epic.
3.) Graphics aren't that terrible and can be adjusted easily by making your own textures.
4.) Animations are pretty damn good with the main characters. Facial expressions are fairly realistic and look good.
5.) Alyx's eyes are beautiful
6.) Engine is very versatile and easily moddable. This can be proven by going to teh MODDB page and looking at the many hundreds of mods made to it, while Unreal has about 100-150.
7.) Physics are damn good. Also, it is involved greatly in puzzles and in combat too.
8.) AI is allright, not terrible, and it was improved in EP2 with the Hunters. But actually when i was playing Anticitizen One again i noticed that the Combine were actually working as a team in VALve maps, one going forward while others covered him and lobbed grenades before charging themselves.
9.) The final product that was made from these is extremely well amde, pretty optimized to the max and can run on shitty computers too.
10.) Ravenholm. Need to say more?
Only flaw was that they could make a texture add-on that would improve the graphics even slightly.
Graphics are great. Ofcourse if you count ugly shiny overused shaders as Pretty Graphics than i have bad news for you.
I Love Half-Life series because they are not the same as the others games. For example the art style:
It's only a few examples that i remember. Look - completely the same, boring art style in completely different games.

Now look at HL2 art stle:

What the fuck really? A different art style? Wow! And even more - There are no annoying supersoldiers or superheroes - Just normal people and Brainwashed guys in really low tech armor suits.
And even the main Female-hero in the game IS NOT A SLUT! I mean everything in this game have sense! Everything is made how it could be in real life.
And again, Bad graphics? Think again.

Truly one of the great defining moments. A character that we all know of, yet have little information on, suddenly giving everything AND nothing away.
And even the main Female-hero in the game IS NOT A SLUT!
I fail to see how that's a good thing.
HL2's the shit, but replayability wise, it's not so good.
graphics fcking suck dawg
graphics fcking suck dawg
Compared to games nowadays, yes, the graphics sucked. However, the Source engine was very revolutionary and it is arguable that HL2 had the best graphics of it's time, without sacrificing gameplay or performance. Yes, that graphics suck, but without HL2 or the source engine, we would probably lack revolutionary game titles available today. Dawg.
Like.

I was talking about HL2, not the episodes. As theyw ere released after HL2, they obviously have betetr graphics. vanilla HL2 has 640x480 textures which lowers the quality of the graphics quite a bit. It could've been at least 1024x768 or or maybe even 2048x2048 hell i don't know. However, as VALVe has proven, graphics don't mean shit if the gameplay is good. And in Hl2, it fucking is. Only thing i could've wanted was to find some sings of H.E.C.U units, like a rotten corpse, a rusty sign for an abandoned base or SOMETHING.
Half Life 2 - Great game or greatest game ever made.

Why would the H.E.C.U. be in eastern europe?

Lowest textures, high models, no AA, 1024x768 resolution....don't get me started. Fanmade texture improvement (not Fakefactory, Jason's pack. You might not heard of him as he's still making it.)
makes the PC version superior. I've tried it and it turned HL2 graphics 300% times better. Fucking trust me. Raises every texture from the def 640x480 blurry shit to sharp, phonged and nicely bumped 1024x768 eye candy. Especially the sand texture is fucking awesome. When it's released (Jas0n's pack i mean) You're going to love it. Don't worry though. Model's are mainly untouched. Only a few props are modified and the Hunter Chopper has an optional replacement. Otherwise it's only the materials.
Why are you writing like that?

You got any pics/links to pics of that pack? Sounds like it could be very interesting.

You don't know much about textures do you?
Half-Life 2 has amazing graphics for a 5 year old game.

I always hated that map visual-wise. Valve could've done so much better at it.
I love it.
On a sorta related note, did you guys hear Raindrop is coming this year?
Man, Raindrop AND Black Mesa, gonna be awesome. Shows how beautiful the engine can be.
it was great as was ep1 and 2 but my main concern is the guns are getting boring now
I love it. It's got an actual original storyline and art style, the graphics are good but the game doesn't rely on them, and it's quite enjoyable and replayable. Very "tweak"-able too.
I think the best thing Valve ever done was making their code open source.
I didn't actually like it that much to be honest
Shooting seemed a little bit dull
Enemy AI is incompetant beyond redemption
Physics engine while certainly fun to mess around with when I got the gravity gun never amounted to much when I played it
Plot is a little bit on the week side
Then again I finished it and replayed it twice so something has to be said about that

I love this game, just wished Gordon idly messed around with his weapons as much as he did in Half Life 1 :v:

hmm. shame, on Traptown it seemed amazing.

Apparently it was pretty good if you were playing Traptown, the beta ravenholm. I bet those combine breaking down doors barricaded doors were pretty cool.
Half life 2 suck the best is opposing force
Even though I haven't completely beat the storyline, I loved playing through the game from where I've gotten so far.
I think that the Half-Life 2 has hit a nice visual middle point.
If you tell me that it was developed 10 years ago, I would believe you.
If you tell me that it was developed last year, I would still think it looks great and I would still believe you.
