Former UFC welterweight champion Matt Hughes was airlifted to a medical facility after the truck he was driving collided with a train Friday morning. The accident occurred just south of Raymond, Illinois, about 12 miles north of Hughes' home in Hillsboro. According to Illinois State Police, Hughes, 43, drove a pickup truck across a railroad grade crossing "directly in front of a train, and the train struck the passenger side of the truck" at 10:43 a.m. HSHS St. John's Hospital in Springfield, Illinois, said Hughes was airlifted there and that its trauma team "stabilized him and continues to help him in his recovery."
Source: http://es.pn/2twbdvA UPDATE (6/19): MATT HUGHES STILL NOT AWAKE Former UFC champ Matt Hughes stable but still not awake following truck collision with train
Former UFC champion Matt Hughes has been stabilized but still hasn’t woken up after his truck collided with a moving train this past Friday in Illinois.

On Sunday, Hughes’ sister Beth Hughes-Ulrici released a statement on Facebook with an update on the UFC Hall of Famer’s condition while also contradicting various news reports about his condition following the accident.

Please understand that there are many false reports out there by people who say they are close to the family. Awake and responsive within a day after his truck got hit by a train? Damn, that's some major luck.
Being built like a tank probably helps a bit there.
Considering all the problems with CTE I hope this was just some stupid mistake and not an attempt to kill himself. Truly one of the greatest & most important fighters in the history of the sport.

Updated OP with new information. Apparently he's not awake. Fox Sports has report with statement directly from sister with facebook post included in source. No new information so far about the events of the collision. Oh and I seemed to have had some formatting issues when editing the OP and I'm too tired, at the moment, to polish it back up but will fix it back up when I can
