The complaint says Mohamad Bazzi of Dearborn ordered halal pizza twice from the shop on Schaefer in Dearborn. The boxes were labeled "halal," but the pies inside were topped with regular pepperoni, according to the Detroit Free Press. Majed Moughni, Bazzi's attorney, said he rushed to file the lawsuit Thursday, the eve of Ramadan, so no other Muslims would accidentally eat pork from the pizza shop during the holiday. "It's really upsetting," Moughni said. "My clients want the public to know. Especially during Ramadan, it would be a travesty if Muslims ... in Dearborn bought pizza from Little Caesars and discovered they were eating pork."

The boxes were labeled "halal," but the pies inside were topped with regular pepperoni, according to the Detroit Free Press.
I mean if they were falsely advertised it seems reasonable to sue.
Does the article page look like this to anyone? Giant empty spaces between every line. As if every sentence is it's own paragraph. On topic though, I have no issues with the lawsuit itself except for this
The case was settled for $700,000. However, some Muslims, including a group led by Moughni, said the settlement money should have gone to the Muslims affected, not to organizations that were based in Detroit or not affiliated with Islam.

Same. I deleted the spaces when I put the quote in the O.P.
I cannot imagine what the person designing that was thinking.
I cannot imagine what the person designing that was thinking.
It's to allow more ad space on the page. Most news websites who rely on ads achieve this by adding filler or by 'accidentally' repeating sentences, so a 100 word article becomes 200 words because they repeat certain sentences 2 or 3 times (and thus creates more space for ads). The Dailymail are notoriously guilty of this. In this case they just add loads of spaces.
I cannot imagine what the person designing that was thinking.
It's a mobile version. This appears to be the full site: http://www.wtsp.com/life/food/muslim-man-sues-little-caesars-afetr-eating-pepperoni-made-with-pork/443216479

I was wondering where you could get halal meat in America, then I noticed Dearborn :v:
The boxes were labeled "halal," but the pies inside were topped with regular pepperoni, according to the Detroit Free Press.
There really need to be serious penalties for this particular kind of false advertising, because it seems to happen a lot. Companies are good about labeling allergens because they can be directly harmful, but are a lot more cavalier about ethical (vegetarian/vegan) or religious (kosher/halal) concerns. Absolutely not cool to lie about the contents of food.
I was wondering where you could get halal meat in America, then I noticed Dearborn :v:
You might be surprised at how much meat is actually halal nowadays, you can find it in most supermarkets.
I was wondering where you could get halal meat in America, then I noticed Dearborn :v:
Just go to NYC, it's on every street corner.
Legitimate reason to sue, not a legitimate reason to claim $100 million damages.
Legitimate reason to sue, not a legitimate reason to claim $100 million damages.
"Oh shit it really says halal I'm so fucked. I'm crying. I'm going to hell now"
"Oh shit it really says halal I'm so fucked. I'm crying. I'm going to hell now"
It's actually fine to be tricked into eating pig though, they're just not allowed to eat it willingly.
It's actually fine to be tricked into eating pig though, they're just not allowed to eat it willingly.
In other words, he must want the meat sausage. :buddy:
Legitimate reason to sue, not a legitimate reason to claim $100 million damages.
either you ask for low amounts of money and the company doesn't give a shit, or you ask for too much and they actually notice and there's a chance they take you seriously
I mean if they were falsely advertised it seems reasonable to sue.
From my understanding for something to be Halal, It only needs to be blessed or the site? and for that reason we've got plastics and chocolates that are Halal in Australia. As for koshers equivalent, I'm unsure.
Legitimate reason to sue, not a legitimate reason to claim $100 million damages.
You shoot for the moon and then take whatever they settle for
Can something be kosher and halal at the same time? Or does one cancel out the other?
Pretty sure a glass of water satisfies all criterias.
Can something be kosher and halal at the same time? Or does one cancel out the other?
Pretty much anything that's halal is also kosher.
I've seen lots of people joking about halal pork here, i never thought its actually real
Can something be kosher and halal at the same time? Or does one cancel out the other?
I know a lot of muslims who, if they can't find what they want marked halal, will just by kosher. I know a few muslims who basically prop up a local jewish deli :v:
I know a lot of muslims who, if they can't find what they want marked halal, will just by kosher.
Isn't there a way to bless something halal with a single word? If it isn't halal.
Can something be kosher and halal at the same time? Or does one cancel out the other?
From what I remember, the koran specifically has a verse saying "Hey man, if it's good for Jews, it's good for you", so basically they're functionally interchangeable. [editline]27th May 2017[/editline]
It's actually fine to be tricked into eating pig though, they're just not allowed to eat it willingly.
You're also allowed to eat it for hospitality's sake and if you have literally no other option and will die of starvation if you don't eat the pork iirc. Islam's pretty chill about its dietary requirements, really.
From my understanding for something to be Halal, It only needs to be blessed or the site? and for that reason we've got plastics and chocolates that are Halal in Australia.
I've seen lots of people joking about halal pork here, i never thought its actually real
It's more that pepperoni can also be made from 100% beef, rather than mixing pork in it. I actually suggest trying it, it's pretty good.
I don't know if it's entirely likely that they've got a muslim clergyman in the back of Little Caesar's blessing the sausages
If its the same like here from what i hear it's only about blessing the site for the day that matters rather than per sausage.
I know a lot of muslims who, if they can't find what they want marked halal, will just by kosher. I know a few muslims who basically prop up a local jewish deli :v:
Peacefully come together via food!
If its the same like here from what i hear it's only about blessing the site for the day that matters rather than per sausage.
It's also more likely that the the sausage is blessed rather than the pizza.
