New Line Cinema’s horror thriller “IT,” directed by Andrés Muschietti (“Mama”), is based on the hugely popular Stephen King novel of the same name, which has been terrifying readers for decades.
When children begin to disappear in the town of Derry, Maine, a group of young kids are faced with their biggest fears when they square off against an evil clown named Pennywise, whose history of murder and violence dates back for centuries.
“IT” stars Bill Skarsgård (“Allegiant,” TV’s “Hemlock Grove”) as the story’s central villain, Pennywise. An ensemble of young actors also star in the film, including Jaeden Lieberher (“Midnight Special”), Jeremy Ray Taylor (“Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip”), Sophia Lillis (“37”), Finn Wolfhard (TV’s “Stranger Things”), Wyatt Oleff (“Guardians of the Galaxy”), Chosen Jacobs (upcoming “Cops and Robbers”), Jack Dylan Grazer (“Tales of Halloween”) and Nicholas Hamilton (“Captain Fantastic”).
Muschietti is directing “IT” from a screenplay adapted by Chase Palmer & Cary Fukunaga and Gary Dauberman. Dan Lin, Roy Lee, Seth Grahame-Smith, David Katzenberg and Barbara Muschietti are producing, with Marty P. Ewing, Doug Davison and Jon Silk serving as executive producers.
The behind-the-scenes creative team includes director of photography Chung-Hoon Chung (“Me and Earl and the Dying Girl”), production designer Claude Paré (“Rise of the Planet of the Apes”), editor Jason Ballantine (“The Great Gatsby”), and costume designer Janie Bryant (TV’s “Mad Men”).
Alright now that the OP is out of the way, social media embargo reactions have been universal acclaim across the board, the main thing i keep hearing among the critics is "IT has heart, chemistry between the cast is amazing and Bill does a amazing job as pennywise" Here's some of those first reactions.

And here's two more reactions for the film that are spread out through multiple tweets.

Full Review embargo is September 5th.
This is amazing to hear that this film is getting mostly positive reactions across the board, but in the end it's gonna come down to how the fans of stephen king and how the audience reacts to it when it comes out, but consider me pumped.
How quickly the tide turned.
Before the release of the trailer there was a lot of hate and negativity towards this movie. Promo pictures looked bad and that IT was miscast and that the visual direction with the clown was too "try-hard scary".
Then the trailer arrived and changed the opinions of pretty much everyone for the better. Can't wait to see it.
Got some clips here and the b-roll/bloopers *SPOILERS*

(The "take it"clip is very heavily edited/cut down, this scene leaked a while back and there's much more to it then what's shown in that clip)
i just won a double pass to see an advance screening next week & cant wait
I have returned and I loved it. It was charming, had heart, was more violent than I expected, had some nice scares, and the kids were great. I would have preferred less CGI body horror but other than that it was a really fun movie.

Oh and sort of spoiler [sp]it ended with 'Chapter 1'. It was just part one and I am guessing 2 will follow the adult story.[/sp]

That's extremely awesome to hear, me and mom are planning to go to see it, nice to hear from a non-critic that it's good. Glad to hear you had fun with IT ! :v:
EDIT
[sp]Yeah, they confirmed a while back that if the film does well enough which at this point it's probably going to, there going to continue the story when there adults, which is a pretty solid plan but it's probably going to be a challenge on there part getting the right actors for the roles to match the kids chemistry from the first film given how well it's been received so far.[/sp]

Well for one, I'd pick Amy Adams for grown-up Beverly, just because the girl looks like a younger version of her.
This is a pretty surprising outcome for this this after all the stories about the fucked up production of the film. For those that don't know, the project was originally set to be helmed by Cary Fukunaga, the director/producer of season 1 of True Detective. He'd been working on it for ages, even wrote the script, then just before filming started the project fell apart due to 'creative differences' and in came Andy Muschietti, director of Mama and nothing else, who picked up the screenplay and made this. I was expecting a mess but that's awesome if he managed to pull it off after all that shit.
Looking forward to watching this. Also to repeat what I said before in another thread, this is meant to be a 2-part film deal, with the 2nd film taking place when the main characters are all adults. I don't get why they haven't given it an official announcement or why they aren't calling this one 'part 1' but I guess it's because they want to see how much money it makes first before officially greenlighting it. People are predicting it's gonna make bank tho so that shouldn't be an issue.

It's kinda remarkable because this is how it should be. Movies need to stand on its own if they aim for more parts of the same story. I just remembered that a different studio was trying to start a Ghostbusters universe with the new movie... that didn't turn out well.

Here's some videos covering this subject and man did this movie dodge a major big bullet cause cary's version is just fucking downright wired and is no way even close to the original book.

what's really weird about this, is that all the reasons the original script was too sexual... happened in the final movie. everything he described about beverly from the 2014 script happens.
Stumbled upon this, i'm gonna say the kids had fun while filming this. :what:

Stephen King, having clearly grown used to seeing adaptations of his works get shit on over recent years, was reportedly "not prepared" for how good the new It adaptation was lol
https://www.flickeringmyth.com/2017/08/stephen-king-was-not-prepared-for-how-good-the-new-it-was/
“I had hopes, but I was not prepared for how good it really was. It’s something that’s different, and at the same time, it’s something that audiences are gonna relate to. They’re gonna like the characters. To me, it’s all about character. If you like the characters… if you care… the scares generally work… I’m sure my fans will enjoy the movie. I think they’re gonna really enjoy the movie. And I think some of them will go back two or three times and actually savor the thing. I went back and saw it a second time, and I felt I was seeing things the second time through that I missed the first time.”
Rusty: [sp] does the kid orgy happen in any way, shape or form? How does the movie end? [/sp]
Rusty: [sp] does the kid orgy happen in any way, shape or form? How does the movie end? [/sp]
[sp]no. for the love of god no.
penny wise kidnaps beverly to use her as bait, and the kids go down into the well into pennywise's lair and discover all the floating children. pennywise tries to trick billy by being georgie, billy doesn't fall for it and shoots fake georgie with the compressed air bolt gun thing, then all the kids face off against IT and realise they're not scared of him anymore. pennywise spazzes out in self defense and his limbs turn into pincers and tentacles and shit and he grabs bill. he offers the kids an ultimatum, you leave bill with me and fuck off and i'll leave you alone. the kids then all beat the shit out of pennywise. he crumbles inward and falls down a hole. time skips, and all the kids make a blood pact to return if pennywise ever comes back.[/sp]
it's been a really long time since i read the book. how much of this happens in it?
The only thing that happens in the book that also happens in the movie that I remember is [sp] IT trying to lure Bill by pretending to be Georgie [/sp]
Looks like they've taken out [sp] the Ritual of Chud and the whole inter-dimensional travel thing [/sp]
I have the book lying around. Should I read it before watching the movie or should I read it after seeing the movie? Or even wait until the second movie comes out?
I have the book lying around. Should I read it before watching the movie or should I read it after seeing the movie? Or even wait until the second movie comes out?
It doesn't really matter but if you wanna know what your getting yourself into i would defiantly read the book first, but if you wanna go in with a blank slate check the new movie out first then read the book.

The book is a densely packed 1000 pages.

Which is to say, you wont finish it anytime soon.
Challenge accepted. At my best times I read 400 pages of Harry Potter per day.
More power to you if you can do it.
I tried an IT VR Demo at an official event. It was only a minor amount of spoopy honestly, just pennywise running up to your face.
The kid who plays Georgie could really act though.

To those that have seen the movie I suppose the biggest question I have would be, how was Pennywise's performance?
FYI been looking around on google and apparently the review embargo will be lifting on Wednesday, so expect a flood of reviews then. Some people are saying it's at exactly 1 AM est but they're not sure on the timezone.
granted i've already heard enough to know I'm gonna see it
To those that have seen the movie I suppose the biggest question I have would be, how was Pennywise's performance?
it's good. it's not tim curry but what is?
Just my 2 cents, if I went down into a partially flooded basement and there's some kid in rain slicks shouting "You'll float too!" I'd probably smack him upside the head and tell him to knock it off.

King's works are very easy to read. He writes his characters like an every-man would, very little pretentiousness, and that's what I love about him.
