The critically endangered big cat, of which there are fewer than 400 remaining in the wild, was slaughtered and hung from a ceiling after residents feared it was a shapeshifter. Some followed the animal to its jungle lair where it attacked the group on Sunday, leaving two people with serious injuries. Conservation officials had warned villagers in Hatupangan, in north Sumatra, not to hurt the animal, which had been spotted around the village for several weeks. But their appeals were ignored. "Unfortunately they would not listen. They insisted on killing the tiger," local conservation agency head Hotmauli Sianturi said, adding that a conservation officer was stopped from protecting the animal.
https://news.sky.com/story/sumatran-tiger-killed-and-hung-after-indonesian-villagers-feared-it-was-shapeshifter-11277231?dcmp=snt-sf-twitter Some traditions are just stupid
This is like that part from Meet The Spy. "okay the corpse is gunna transform any minute now!"
I'm pretty sure you would have a different opinion if there was a tiger wandering around your hometown every now and then.
Poor cat, killed because of man's ignorance.
That's a special kind of fucked up, shame the tiger didn't fight back.
I'm pretty sure you would have a different opinion if there was a tiger wandering around your hometown every now and then.
Are you saying I would think it's a shapeshifter? Anything other than a tiger?
Well was it a shapeshifter? Shit article if it doesn’t mention it tbh.
A shame it didn't actually kill any of them really, they were asking for it and deserved it in my eyes, this animal didn't deserve this though.

What if it just took the shape of a dead tiger?
I don't get it. Our children are in danger and a shapeshifter is supposed to get a free pass because it *might be* an actual endangered species?! Smh like and share if you support Jesus
A shame it didn't actually kill any of them really, they were asking for it and deserved it in my eyes, this animal didn't deserve this though.
It's a tiger roaming a village. I like cats too, and it sucks an animal got killed, but tigers are not a fucking joke, of course people would kill it.
Do the people complaining about the tiger being endangered not realize that its a deadly big cat roaming a village? Yes, the shapeshifter thought is stupid, but if conversationalists *truly* wanted to keep the animal alive, they would have come and relocated it before the villagers had to protect their homes from a dangerous predator.
The worst part about this is that the Sumatran Tiger is listed as Critically Endangered. These idiot villagers just participated in the death of a species that is already near the verge of being wiped from our natural history.
It was just defending itself
They should have convinced the villagers that the tiger is actually a friendly spirit and it'll only go away if you make loud noises or convince it to leave with food
What does it take to make people understand what endangered animals are?
They probably don't care They are just villagers in a very remote area, likely with poor access to education and low literacy rates, mostly living subsistence lifestyles. Tigers can be p. dangerous in these cases, tho the shapeshifter shit is weird.
A shame it didn't actually kill any of them really, they were asking for it and deserved it in my eyes, this animal didn't deserve this though.
I cannot imagine there being any animal on this earth, endangered or not, that is worth more than a human's life.
Honestly, the value of human life gets lower and lower the more we shit up the planet, I'm not seeing many animals being the causing of shitting up the planet.
Well was it a shapeshifter? Shit article if it doesn’t mention it tbh.
It shapeshifted into a carcass.
I'm pretty sure you would have a different opinion if there was a tiger wandering around your hometown every now and then.
Because I possess common sense, that premise is incorrect.
Fair point, the villagers were likely not educated that they were endangered The govt should had made in clearer if they know about them in the area But its still not right, after all we could say the same about other extinct species in the past, the dodo etc.

If you have a tiger sauntering around where you live, you kill it. It absolutely does not matter how endangered it is, if something is dangerous and you don't have the means to extract/relocate it safely there really is no other option.
I understand why they did it but Im still angry
We should spray all tiger habitats with Viagra and aphrodisiacs so they are constantly fucking and making as many babies as possible, one of the reasons why they are endangered is because they are very sexually inactive, if they mated like rabbits it wouldn't be an issue. Panda's have exactly the same issue, they are retardedly slow at creating offspring. Another possible solution is to teach tigers how to use fully automatic assault rifles.
Honestly though I don't think you can expect much of these people, and I think the government should've really done more if species conservation was really what they were worried about. These people live in poor conditions and probably cannot even read, let alone comprehend the notion of animal conservation. Superstition is a way of life for them. And tigers are extremely dangerous. Do the math, and you can see why they'd want to hunt down the jungle beast before it gets them first.
I'm not an expert but I think shapeshifters are even more endangered than Sumatran tigers! So killing it is like a double crime
