US documentary film-maker Morgan Spurlock has publicly confessed to a history of sexual misconduct, referring to himself as "part of the problem".
Spurlock, who made the hit film Super Size Me, wrote on Twitter that he had been accused of rape and had paid to settle a claim of sexual harassment.
He also admitted cheating on "every wife and girlfriend I have ever had".
The US entertainment industry has been rocked by claims of sexual abuse and harassment going back decades.
In a lengthy statement, Spurlock said that after months of such revelations he had come to the conclusion that "I am not some innocent bystander, I am also a part of the problem".
"As I sit around watching hero after hero, man after man, fall at the realisation of their past indiscretions, I don't sit by and wonder 'who will be next?' I wonder, 'when will they come for me?'," he wrote.
"I would call my female assistant 'hot pants' or 'sex pants' when I was yelling to her from the other side of the office. Something I thought was funny at the time, but then realised I had completely demeaned and belittled her to a place of non-existence."
Spurlock said he himself had been the victim of sexual abuse as a boy and a teenager, and also had a longstanding drink problem.
"I haven't been sober for more than a week in 30 years, something our society doesn't shun or condemn but which only served to fill the emotional hole inside me and the daily depression I coped with," he wrote.
Spurlock said he hoped that by "recognising and openly admitting what I've done to further this terrible situation, I hope to empower the change within myself".
Calling someone hot pants is sexual misconduct? What? Maybe harassment but actual legitimate sexual misconduct?
I'd say "misconduct" is kind of a huge umbrella label that both harassment and more severe things can fall under since it's all technically misconduct.

in his full post he cops to a college rape accusation made against him being true
FUCK YOU, IT'S FOREVER!
ENDLESS HARASSMENT!
I guess the question now is whether he's truly penitent or if he's going full Spacey from finally getting called out.
Honestly was never a fan of the guy's documentaries (Super Size Me was very dishonest, and I ate it hook line and sinker when I saw it in junior high), but at least he's admitting his behavior was demeaning.

he's just getting out ahead of any allegations. he's trying to control the narrative and get credit for being a 'changed man' (when he never would have come out with this if nobody had ever come out against weinstein.)
he committed a rape. confessing to that (out of fear of being exposed) doesn't make you not a rapist.

Based on what he said, it's not so cut and dry.
He claims both were drunk. Under US law, being drunk makes both of them unable to consent.
He could just as easily have said that she had raped him.
It's a very muddy issue here in the US, and it happens fairly often.

The question then what does he become? Because at this rate than there's no way one can be accepted as a changed individual or reconcile with their past misdeeds.
So then whats the point of anyone apologizing? Why bother attempt to correct your behavior when you are going to be continually regarded as a deviant? What does it matter if he tries to get ahead of allegations if the end result is going to be the same?
While I agree that some things are inexcusable, such as rape, there are things such as calling someone "sex pants" that can be redeemed from. Holding a concrete position on someones transgressions only furthers the alienation of someone who is trying to better themselves.
He also admitted cheating on "every wife and girlfriend I have ever had".
what the fuck is wrong with this guy. it's good to see someone owning up to their disgusting behavior rather than deflecting it for once though.

actions speak a lot louder. he should probably have just privately apologized to all those he's wronged and corrected his behaviour. the proof would be in the pudding. what he's done though is a stunt and manipulation. with his track record of lies and deceit how can anyone be expected to believe otherwise unless there's evidence of him having corrected his behaviour? like you know, actually being decent for a few years before trying to get out ahead of allegations. and maybe having done all this before people were getting caught?

Say he did that, and someone decided to come out anyway?
When you're in the public eye it's not like you can be 100% discreet with your actions, and honestly what you're asking for is a damned if you do damned if you don't situation. No matter how he handled it all it takes is one person to decide his apologies weren't good enough, and then we'd be right back where we are with him coming forward with it. Call it a save of face as much as you will, but it takes quite a bit of balls to essentially hang yourself to redeem your self. Being a decent human being is a lot more than just being a good little boy scout, and I'm sure plenty of people here have done deplorable things that they regret doing even in recent history. Not to mention it sounds like he was doing what your asking for prior to ousting himself.
