https://www.recode.net/2018/1/4/16850956/fcc-chairman-ajit-pai-ces-death-threats
Federal Communications Commission Chairman Ajit Pai canceled his scheduled appearance at a major upcoming tech industry trade show after receiving death threats, two agency sources told Recode on Thursday. safety may have been at risk, after a bomb threat abruptly forced the chairman to halt his controversial vote to scrap the U.S. government’s net neutrality rules in December 2017. For both Pai and the whole of the FCC, the uptick in security concerns also presents a serious challenge to their ability to discuss critical tech policy issues in public view — without jeopardizing their safety or the wellbeing of others in attendance.

[...] discuss critical tech policy issues in public view
[emphasis mine] Hah, as if. Bomb threats and anything regarding his family go too far, but I'm happy he's being inconvenienced.
A man who willingly ignores the complaints of others to further his own gain has no right discussing shit at CES, I bet he didn't even want to go in the first place.
Bomb threats and anything regarding his family go to far
the people who disagree with this are psychotic and it only shows that you will be the first to throw ethics and morality to the wind when things get tough
I think death threats are a little excessive but the guy really should have seen this coming.
the people who disagree with this are psychotic and it only shows that you will be the first to throw ethics and morality to the wind when things get tough
An amoral and unethical person would love Ajit Pai though due to his decisions being so heavily influenced by how much your willing to super PAC his offshore international waters "bank" account. When one abides by a set of morals and ethics and follows them religiously, to see someone so blatantly violate them they would be infuriated and unfortunately some so much so they are willing to call in bomb threats. "It's not fair, it's not right" isn't a valid argument in the vast field of psychopaths known as politics.
Even if this guy would appear I can already hear the loud booing and screaming if he would appear.
I wish he could have appeared and 'discussed' his policy changes. He would be forced then to face a crowd of tens of thousands as they are ALL unanimously screaming how wrong he is.
How how many tinfoil hats would I need when I would say that there probably was no threat or they made one up? Feels fitting considering the amount of bots were used in favor of his policies. While there are enough people that would maybe do it, this type of news technically just plays in his hand because he likes to put every NN support as some crazy internet troll.

Especially nowadays considering that social medias are so widely used these days by nearly everyone. Death threats are not envelopes with some crude message that is being deposited infront of your house, a tweet or some random commentary on an article do even count as a death threat.

He would be forced then to face a crowd of tens of thousands as they are ALL unanimously screaming how wrong he is.
I believe it 100% now. He doesn't want to go to CES, since EXPERTS they would destroy his bullshit.
the sad thing here is that it doesn't matter whether he shows up to face the opposition or not, because you cannot argue with a person who has convinced themselves that their critics are blind and wrong. not a billion people calling for his head could convince him he may have slipped up

Hell, he probably knows everything he's saying is wrong, yet keeps it up for his own personal gain, like any good corporate lawyer. That's what's so twisted and terrible about this man.

The ISPs threw him under the bus (with his support, obviously) so we could all rally against him instead of them. He is just a tool in multiple senses of the word. He is paid to not think.
He'd better get used to it. Being the most hated person on the internet comes with a lot of disadvantages
You can't call your entire opposition trolls and then take a death threat seriously.
You can't call your entire opposition trolls and then take a death threat seriously.
people in the real world generally get concerned when their life and their family's life is being threatened i hope you understand this [editline]5th January 2018[/editline] if someone told me they're gonna kill me and my family the last thing on my mind is oh lol epic troll dude nice one lmao
What was he expecting, a parade and cascade of thank you letters? [editline]5th January 2018[/editline]
a serious challenge to their ability to discuss critical tech policy issues in public view
It sure is difficult for a federal office to discuss things with the American people after it tried to sell them out for personal gain huh?
speaking of CES, any facepunchers want to meet up?
the people who disagree with this are psychotic and it only shows that you will be the first to throw ethics and morality to the wind when things get tough
For some people, those 2 things have let them down time and time again against people who don't have them.
When you give a big old fuck you to 4/5 Americans, mocking them in the process, you're unlikely to be safe in public for a long time. Guess he really thought he was the shit
if someone told me they're gonna kill me and my family the last thing on my mind is oh lol epic troll dude nice one lmao
Context sensitive, really. I'm sure many of us have experienced people getting mad in online games and say they'll kill you etc. My response to that is always something like laughter. It's not always something to be taken seriously imo. (I obviously can't speak for all the insane people on the internet who probably really do want to kill Ajit.)
