First no hockey, now no music. Ottawa has declared that it’s officially too cold – even for Canadians. Heritage Canada has announced that a New Year’s Eve concert planned for Ottawa has been cancelled because of an extreme cold weather warning. The party’s cancellation on Friday came after the federal government also moved an outdoor hockey tournament indoors and away from a C$5.6m (£3.3m) temporary ice rink installed on Parliament Hill. The forecast overnight low for the nation’s capital on Sunday is -29C, nearly 20 degrees colder than the seasonal average. Public skating and a fireworks show on the city’s Parliament Hill will go ahead as planned on Sunday night, but Heritage Canada warned revellers have been warned to dress for the weather and “prepare accordingly to prevent frostbite and other injuries”. Most of Canada is in the depths of a deep freeze, with temperatures across the country reaching, and in some cases breaking, cold-weather records. On Thursday Toronto shattered a 57-year record, with the mercury dipping to -22C. It's only -22 in Ottawa. That -29 comes at 6am. -18 in Toronto and there's fireworks and partyers aplenty, that report is a sham
nonsense! more alcohol!
I've never actually experienced inner sinus pain until this winter, it's horrible up here
Can confirm it is very cold in montreal.
The wind chill was fucking -35 the other day kill me
-40 due to windchill here last thursday in montréal
Yeah, things are getting pretty fucking frigid up north more
-8F, -19F windchill where I'm at. Just a little bit cold, but not outrageous.
New Years celebrations got cancelled here in Calgary too. First time I remember that happening, but I could be wrong
It's pretty damn cold even in West Virginia, at 5F (-15C).
i'm pretty sure temperatures like that are not unheard of on mars
Vancouver here, its bloody freezing.
Yeah, I think it's safe to say it's pretty damn cold. I believe our new years stuff has also been cancelled here in Edmonton. They were telling people to watch fireworks from inside. Raw temperature wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't for the wind.
-9 right now -18 with windchill here in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia but it was cold as a witch's teet the last few days let me tell you stay warm fellow canadians [editline]1st January 2018[/editline] The worst part is December 23rd and 24th were actually really warm and brought quite a bit of rain here, according to weather network the temperature was 11.°C now all that rain is frozen :hammered:
Vancouver here, its bloody freezing.
Vancouver is like -2 degrees here today, that's hardly comparable
I can't help but think of this meme, I'm sorry.
Anything below 10 degrees for me sucks and I'm Canadian
Just gonna copy my post from LMAO pics:
[t]https://scontent.ffar1-1.fna.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/26166441_1992857027648606_6617037277088839032_n.jpg?oh=1719e9b7f4b0bf890c35d06ffb6ccba0&oe=5AFF6626[/t] -28c w/ -40c windchill at 11 kilometers per hour. :suicide:
This is the normal through out the entire northern Midwest and into the middle provinces of Canada.
Windchill is the fucking worst. I'm comfortable wearing t-shirts at 0°C but as soon as a lil gust of wind comes, it feels like being showered in dry ice.
Imagine having to warm up the indoor ice rink or else it'll be too cold, jesus christ
I can't help but think of this meme, I'm sorry.
That is astonishingly accurate.
-29c? Fuck me sideways that's obnoxiously cold

My driveway is still a sheet of ice

I have like 7 different winter coats I have worn over the years trying to stay warm, and the only one that ever prevented the wind going through to me was leather. Probably because it's literally wearing the skin of another animal.
The worst part about wind chill, I think, is that it will always find the tiniest patches of exposed skin and attack them. You can bundle your core, legs, hands, feet and head, but no matter what you do, there's always gaps and bits left out in the open. Especially the face.

I had to walk 10 minutes directly into the wind and when I got home I immediately put my face in a bowl of warm water.
