OtherSide Entertainment creative director Warren Spector appeared on Starbreeze's livestream event today to discuss System Shock 3, and the following images were shown: This past August, OtherSide Entertainment confirmed that System Shock 3 development has officially begun. The studio also revealed the team of developers behind the project, which, in addition to Spector, includes design director Sheldon Pacotti (Deus Ex, Deux Ex: Invisible War), art director Arturo Pulecio (Warhammer Online, Epic Mickey) and tech director Jason Hughes (Wing Commander, Epic Mickey). System Shock 3 will mark the return of SHODAN (voiced by Terri Brosius), who ranks as one of IGN's top 100 villains. Alongside the game's announcement in 2015, the studio released a survey to gauge interest in virtual reality, suggesting VR support might be under consideration for the project. We'll get to play as a half naked man? bold choice
is it just me or does this look kinda off
is it just me or does this look kinda off
A little bit but conceptual pieces are more or less done to find what direction the visuals of a game may go in than show off what the game will look like in the end sometimes. I imagine this is going to be the case.
is it just me or does this look kinda off
In a way it reminds me of old, low-res FMV. Like in Realms of the Haunting, or some of the cinematics in Thief: The Dark Project.

Stuff like this doesn't surprise me because of that.
Or we could get that systemshock remake.
Or we could get that systemshock remake.
Which is still being done. Nightdive is making the remake. Otherside Entertainment are making SS3. Seperate studios.
Pretty, but some of those shots ignore what made the level design of the original and the sequel good. The Von Braun is claustrophobic as hell. There's almost always less than an arm's length of air separating the player from flanking geometry.
Or we could get that systemshock remake.
Or, we're getting both...
The Von Braun was never flashy or futuristic, either. It was distinctly cold in a fashion reminiscent of a corporate office space.

Its more or less just a sneak peek at what they're doing right now.
I have high hopes for this. after watching spector's "postmortem" talk about deus ex, it sounds like he still understands how to make a good game. plus they have the lead writer behind deus ex too.

Fuck that agriculture sector with its spiders
i hope this can top the most recent installment in the PREY franchise in terms of the system shock vibe, as honestly the new PREY has been closer to a true successor to SS2 than any other game that has even remotely attempted to emulate the atmosphere. regardless, i'm sure this project will turn out amazing, i just can only pray(heh) that this can top prey
I'm not sure what to think of the picture included here. It's looks far too "modern" with the overall feel. System shock 2 had a slightly retro sci-fi look to it with it's simplicity, obviously some of that was due to the limitations of the game but it certainty wasn't the sort of setting with the usual high-tech lighting, metal panels and greeble everywhere. It didn't have the cluttered modern advanced look most sci-fi goes for these days, it was a lot cleaner and less obviously futuristic, in a way. The other concepts look great though and have the right sort of feel for the setting.
We'll get to play as a half naked man? bold choice
Full naked or I ain't buying.
I thought Nightdive would make the others since they got the rights to make remakes of 2. Is Otherside a good company? [editline]11th May 2017[/editline] Oh, Warren Spector is in this I can sleep soundly then
is it just me or does this look kinda off
The character looks strange. It might be because he has massive traps and tiny legs. Looks fine otherwise imo

This can't come soon enough.
Just an FYI for people concerned about the concept art, SS2 had some concepts that looked very different from the final aesthetic: I wouldn't get too worked up over the art style.
If you go into the article and look at the other shots, you'll get a more system shock'y feeling.
I'm honestly curious where they will take the story. I'd like to see what happened to the couple that escaped the ship and the Hacker soldier main character.
