In New York City in 1900, the Knickerbocker Hospital operates with innovative surgeons, nurses and staff who have medicinal limitations to prevent staggeringly high mortality rates. Dr. John Thackery, the newly appointed leader of the surgery staff, battles his cocaine and opium addictions with his ambition for medical discovery and reputation among his peers. Harvard graduate Dr. Algernon Edwards must fight for respect within the all-white-populated hospital, as well as the racially charged city. While literally struggling to keep the lights on, the hospital attempts to attract a wealthy clientele, without sacrificing quality care.
The premiere was yesterday on Cinemax. It looks really good, feels kinda like ER and House M.D. thrown into New York in 1900. Certainly has a potential, I kinda miss any good procedural.
And you might notice the black surgeon in the poster. Yes, the internet was worried about that, but that issue was addressed in the series and racism from that period serves as a fantastic plotline
And I have no idea why there's "dsf" in the title. Sorry about that.
Saw the first episode yesterday. Very well made with excellent actors and cinematography. It's also really fucking gruesome with detailed, graphic scenes.

so far it's a 85/100 from me
I might check it out, Clive Owen is cool and the guy on the right side of the poster played Sam Fisher in the latest Splinter Cell.
First episode is available for Americans on Youtube:

It's still around, and it's great. Second episode was kinda meh, but third is showing some progress. It takes time to create good long lasting storylines, but I think this series might be one of the best newcomers this year.
steven soderbergh? clive owen?
i am sold, too bad i don't have cinemax.
I don't know why but I watched the first episode and lost all interest.
I think it's the time period... I like historical dramas. There's three right now that I'm watching: Manhattan, Outlander and Masters of Sex. All three are interesting in their own rights and all three portray different eras- 1940's Manhattan Project, 1743 Scottland, 1959- so when I heard about this show I thought this was right up my alley.
I don't know. It just didn't grab me and I have no interest of watching more. But do watch Manhattan if you have the time.
We're only halfway during the season, but I already think that this is the best newcomer of this fall/autumn time, and the best medical drama since first seasons of House MD. It's just so mesmerizing, with brilliant cast and sheer brutality of that period.
I just watched all of this and it's really fantastic. I'm bummed though because I thought the season was over but it's not and now I have to wait for the finale.
Fuck. What have I done?
Haunting. Amazing ending of an utterly phenomenal season. Cannot wait for the next one, because this is one of the best TV pieces currently on air.
I liked how it didn't end with a bang like most season finales. Really interested to see what happens next season.
Shit people, the second season is out and it's fucking beautiful. More gruesome and haunting then before, overall potentially better. It's one of the best series out there right now, do yourself a favor and watch it.
Holy jesus, that last episode was astonishing, with every single scene. Pure cinematography and electric music porn. Love it, one of the best shows currently.
I kinda miss any good procedural.

Last three episodes were straight 10/10s, simply amazing.

He's a racist cunt but I still kind of see his exaggerated point in those wicked times. He's not yet irredeemable but I don't see the writers providing him with such an elegant exit.
Holy fuck
[sp]ded or not ded, i'm going with ded[/sp]
I don't get why they have a whole audience always watching them with each operation
I don't get why they have a whole audience always watching them with each operation
there's a reason it's called an operating theatre
people watch on and learn and observe new techniques. it's pretty early in medical history and there's a lot for everyone to learn and share
they still do this nowadays for medical students
just finished the first season, this is great and owen is simply superb

Good, it's a pretty good watch.
I gotta say I like the No Credits beginning especially. It's like straight to business each episode, often mixed with music also. This doesn't say much about the series' content itself, but it's all good.
Meanwhile, all my favorite HBO series have the credits with the intro, but they don't play with music at all during the series, except in the beginning and in the end iirc. (The Sopranos, The Wire, Oz.)
