Star Trek: Discovery actor and Broadway star Anthony Rapp has come forward with claims that Kevin Spacey made sexual advances towards him when he was 14 years old. Spacey allegedly made a pass at Rapp in 1986 when the two were both working together on Broadway in in a a revival of Long Day’s Journey Into Night and Precious Sons respectively, according to an interview he did with BuzzFeed News. At the time, Spacey was 26 years old.

UPDATED, 9:19 PM: Just hours after Anthony Rapp came forward with his story about Kevin Spacey’s alleged sexual advances towards him 31-years ago, the House of Cards star took to Twitter tonight to respond. After apologizing to the Star Trek Discovery actor and saying he has a lot of respect and admiration for him as an actor. Spacey goes on to say he was “horrified” by the story and does not remember the encounter. In remarks of his own on social media after Spacey spoke out, Rapp did not accept or reject the Oscar nominee’s apology. Shifting focus, Spacey’s Twitter post also goes on to address rumors about the actor’s personal life. “As those closest to me know, in my life I have had relationships with both men and women,” he said. “I have loved and had romantic encounters with men throughout my life, and I choose to live as a gay man.”
http://deadline.com/2017/10/anthony-rapp-kevin-spacey-sexual-advances-harassment-1202197344/
For how extremely eccentric Spacey acts in interviews, some of his roles, etc., this shouldn't surprise me... but it does. Lol. Good on him, and I'm really happy to see he apologized as a response... rather than grabbing a bunch of lawyers and taking that weird, fishy route many are taking.
"sorry I made sexual advances towards you when you were 14 and I was 26, totes don't remember LOL im so funny and random!" (User was banned for this post ("Shitpost" - Mezzokoko))
:s: uhh... its better than denying it and causing shitstorms over it but what the hell
"sorry I made sexual advances towards you when you were 14 and I was 26, totes don't remember LOL im so funny and random!"
Yes, because that's exactly what he said. Nice shitpost. But hey, what's the use of a story like this without a witch pursuit thingy to follow it, right?
What...
"sorry I made sexual advances towards you when you were 14 and I was 26, totes don't remember LOL im so funny and random!"
"I don't remember making advances towards you, but I am sorry if I ever made you uncomfortable. I have great respect for you as a person and a professional." Or there is your interpretation...
Will anything legal come of this? I'm mildly concerned. I do want my next season of House of Cards ._.
"I am sorry if I ever made you uncomfortable" is such a bullshit cop-out. He's apologising for how Rapp reacted rather than what he himself did, pushing the burden of responsibility to the victim.

Especially since this seems to be a one man show right now.
People saying he's using a trick he learned from House of Cards, hiding a headline behind another headline to shift focus. Don't know what to think about it all to be honest.

Don't know what to think about it all to be honest.
That's honestly what it comes off as to me. He makes an apology about severely inappropriate sexual predator behavior and then uses coming out as a shock "oh yeah btw I'm gay" to shift focus from the original topic Don't want it to seem like I'm witchhunting here, I just find it very fishy to come out as a response to being called out on being a sexual predator.
People saying he's using a trick he learned from House of Cards, hiding a headline behind another headline to shift focus.
sounds incredibly cynical tbh
He should have stuck to the tried and tested method of asking for forgiveness from god and entered rehab.
"sorry I made sexual advances towards you when you were 14 and I was 26, totes don't remember LOL im so funny and random!"
Yes, I'm sure he can remember every second of his life, just like everyone else.
I guess sexual advances to another male is pretty much giving it away, so it's not that weird that he decided to come out. The apology definitely looks strategically written, but I guess you also have to consider that this is a pretty awful situation to have to come out under so I mean it's not that unsurprising for him to try to come out in partly his way. Therefore sounding somewhat unauthentic perhaps
If he doesn't genuinely remember what can he say? He can't deny it because not remembering means it might've happened or not, so he's just apologizing in case that it did happen but admitting that he doesn't remember. What would you guys say if you were him? :pudge:
He should have stuck to the tried and tested method of asking for forgiveness from god and entered rehab.
Rehab for what? Sexually advancing on a young teenager 32 years ago, in a single isolated incident? (if you were just joking I do apologize) Maybe if the accusations keep piling up I'll be able to consider this an actual issue, but everyone makes mistakes, and this single mistake happened a very long time ago. I guess the court of public opinion doesn't care though.
I mean sure he apologized and all that but supposing this happened, this means he was hitting on a 14 year old boy as a 26 year old man. That kind of brings in a pedophilia angle that I think ought to be acknowledged here. The best you could say is that he didn't know he was 14.
Rehab for what? Sexually advancing on a young teenager 32 years ago, in a single isolated incident? (if you were just joking I do apologize)
The post probably was a joke. But you can't presume that this is an isolated incident because a. Rapp only came out against Spacey because of the ongoing accusations against Weinstein, which clearly wasn't a single case scenario; b. in the tweet, Spacey says "I know that there are stories out there about me" which only someone naive would think that refers to only his sexuality, instead of other incidents he instigated. Whether or not he remembers this night isn't going to matter soon.
Maybe if the accusations keep piling up I'll be able to consider this an actual issue, but everyone makes mistakes, and this single mistake happened a very long time ago.
Rapp is claiming that Spacey pinned him and tried to sexually advance onto this 14 year old that is trying to get away. This is not a mistake people make every now and then.
Let's not start making excuses for clearly sexual predator behavior just because he came out as gay (or worse because house of cards is a good show and it would be mighty inconvenient to your entertainment regimine) He didn't deny it, he gave the very neutral, legally safe answer of "I don't recall," and trying to fuck a barely pubescent kid in your mid 20s isnt a "lol oops" moment. I feel like him coming out on top of it is trying to distract the issue regardless of if it's true. Innocent before proven guilty and all that, I'm just saying, don't be so quick to dismiss actual sexual harassment and pedophilia. Shit doesn't fly with me and it shouldn't with you.
why are people giving him a free pass for "not remembering"...?
Well 14 is legal in some countries :qsex101: But since he already has a bad rep in hollywood I wonder if this is the worst of it or if more is to come.
Well 14 is legal in some countries :qsex101: But since he already has a bad rep in hollywood I wonder if this is the worst of it or if more is to come.
14 isn't legal to people over the age of 20 in most countries that have that aoc, not that it matters considering 14 is way too young

The articles I read gave me an impression that the most he did was pick him up in his arms for a few seconds, and that Rapp stopped it without issue. I didn't realize there was more than that.
way to throw lgbqt under the bus too "I might have done some weird pedo shit in the past but guess what I'M GAY! Here is your headline!" Also people giving him a free pass because he said he doesn't remember, like that makes it any better.
Why are some people in this thread so quick to ignore the pedophilia angle? It's not exactly an "everyone makes mistakes" sort of action.
So like everyone else - super surprised that he's gay. I don't know much about the dude but it's a surprise nevertheless. It would be nice to discuss more of this revelation in a light-hearted way if it wasn't attached to an accusation of pedophilic sexual assault. I actually find it super distasteful that he took accusation as a moment to come out to the public - what is usually an empowering moment for both the celebrity and their fans is now tinged with this really uncomfortable, unfortunately creepy vibe. Even if he doesn't intend for it to be this way, it's shifting the spotlight off the sexual assault. That being said, I don't know of the severity of the 'assault' - it just seems to be unwanted sexual advances, but towards a child, I don't know. I pretty much have zero respect for him right now. [editline]30th October 2017[/editline] Like headlines are now going to be forced to include "btw Kevin Spacey is gay" when they report on this accusation. No matter what it was a bad time to try and make this issue about him and his sexuality.

If someone accuses you of hitting on a 14 year old your reaction shouldn't be " I can't remember if I did that". I mean come on dude
