VW announces massive $84 billion investment in electric cars and batteries

[QUOTE]Volkswagen updated its plans for electric cars with a complete overhaul of its investment strategy.
After announcing an initial investment of $10 billion in EVs earlier this year, which was still smaller than the German automaker’s investments in gas-powered cars, they now promise to spend up to 70 billion euros (~$84 billion USD) in order to bring 300 electric vehicle models to market by 2030.
More interestingly, most of the investment 50 billion euros (~$60 billion) will be in battery production in order to support their electric car ambitions for the next decade.

Probably the only sensible PR-friendly way VW could've gone after all those scandals.
Is anybody agreeing with me when I say that Tesla's success is a huge reason that we see all these car manufacturers finally getting off their asses and being innovative again?

Car manufacturers haven't stopped being innovative. They're just innovated in the same area. Tesla has forced them to branch out and start innovating ideas with electric vehicles.

Absolutely. Typical Game Theory scenario. There's a lot of money to be made in the sector, but the amount of effort it involves and the risk it brings is something most companies aren't comfortable with.
I can't imagine VW or Ford going through the money burning rate Tesla has.
Just after today I learned that my Golf 5 has to have a 1k€ repair because of a faulty motor part on their side.
They have a lot lot lot lot of public image to repair as well.

At least here in Germany they have done nothing but "invent" diesel cars because of our retarded laws benefiting them as company cars and pandering to the idiotic need of the market for SUVs.
It's not inventing. It's raking in money in a short sighted market orientation and now the major German companies are in hot waters because they are almost too late for the EVs.
Please give me an EV of a volkswagon type 2 with up-to-date tech.

It's a concept car, meaning that the design can still change.
You know what I want?
I want a eRS3.
An electric RS model with ludicrous performance and Audi's styling would be heaven.
It's what Tesla is missing. Aesthetics.

That seems like the kind of vehicle that would have variants too, if bigger is what is desired. Most trucks, vans, etc. do iirc.

I hope you meant aesthetics because I'm not so sure Tesla needs any tranquilizers
