A 12-year-old girl was taken into custody after two students were shot inside a classroom at a Los Angeles middle school on Thursday, authorities said. The gunfire wounded a 15-year-old boy, who was shot in the head and is in serious condition, and a 15-year-old girl, who was struck in the wrist and is in fair condition, the Los Angeles Fire Department said. Three other people — a 30-year-old woman, an 11-year-old boy and a 12-year-old girl — suffered minor injuries and were taken to local hospitals, the fire department said. "We know this a very traumatic incident for all the children involved, particularly inside that classroom," said Steven Zipperman, chief of the Los Angeles school system police department. The shots erupted shortly before 9 a.m. at Sal Castro Middle School, just west of downtown Los Angeles. The campus remained on lockdown but was declared safe. "With the suspect in custody, the situation is under control," Sgt. Edward Bernal of the Los Angeles Unified District Police Department told the Associated Press. A gun was recovered from the scene, police said.
NBC News See below
Can we please tear up this useless "zero tolerance" policy and actually make an effort to solve student issues, instead of punishing victims? Like schools have become so protective of their funding and bottom lines they care more about beans on the balance sheet than they do about the young minds they've been trusted with.
To be fair we don’t really have any mention of a possible motive yet. But yeah something needs to be done about how fucking stupid school administrations are lately.
No real info so far of course but I'm not unwilling to bet that this girl has had a really rough time at school and/or at home and nobody at the school has done anything for her. Public schools are fucked and really can't be assed to deal with bullying at all unless it makes them look bad. They don't care for the students at all.

I'd say if things are still going the same way, it's a case of the teachers just saying "suck it up lol, I don't care".
Is this the first school shooting done by a girl? I don't recall any other times something like this happened.

I even talked to the principle and he said I'd get punishment too for fighting back :/ I mean nowadays I honestly wouldn't give a shit and fight back but back then I didn't want a suspension on my record.
Falls back onto some people not speaking out to begin with, but that also falls onto Schools not making Children feel like they can speak up about bullying safely
You can't blame the children for this shit. You need to blame the adults whose job it is to help them.

Has that ever proven to be helpful and not just making children bottle up stuff until bad things happen?
I'd ask these people how they'd feel getting locked up for defending themselves against a robber who threatened their lives in the street. Imagine if zero tolerance bled into outside of schools. Bet my bottom dollar they would be furious. I know I would. Not that i'm saying violence is the answer, but for a lot of these kids, the only way to get these bullies off their backs is to go through them.
Is this the first school shooting done by a girl? I don't recall any other times something like this happened.
There's been a few, just not that many. I wouldn't know specifics though
You can't blame the children for this shit. You need to blame the adults whose job it is to help them.
You certainly can place blame on perpetrators of these shootings. Many are absolutely old enough to understand the repercussions of what they do, ones that don't are the ones that probably don't care or actually enjoy that twisted shit. That said, the system they abide under does not give proper resources to their care. Bullying is rarely dealt with on an administrative level and, at least where I went to school, no adults felt easily approachable for emotional support barring my parents. Things like these are what push trouble children to make terrible decisions despite knowing what it does.

Luckily it never got to that.
Police believe that the gun went off unintentionally from within the girl's backpack, possibly when she dropped it:
A gunshot that went off in a Los Angeles middle school classroom on Thursday, hitting two students, was accidentally discharged from inside a girl's backpack, Los Angeles police said Friday. A 12-year-old girl was booked on a charge of negligent discharge of a firearm after the shooting, police had said Thursday. On Friday, LAPD Deputy Chief Robert Arcos told NBC News that evidence appeared to point to the weapon discharging once from within the bookbag — but he noted that investigators continue to examine evidence and interview witnesses.

Jordan Valenzuela, a schoolmate of the girl in custody, told the Associated Press that she later said it was an accident. The sobbing girl told him: "I didn't mean to. I had the gun in my backpack and I didn't know it was loaded and my backpack fell and the gun went off,'" the seventh-grader said.
https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/l-middle-school-shooting-gun-accidentally-discharged-girl-s-backpack-n844186
Now I'm curious as to what pulled the trigger
Now I'm curious as to what pulled the trigger
Most likely is a case of bullying taken too far. I'm curious how easy was for her getting the gun. I'm guessing her parents didn't kept the gun in a safe.
Now I'm curious as to what pulled the trigger
shouldn't you be more curious as of why a 12 years old is bringing a gun to school with her
shouldn't you be more curious as of why a 12 years old is bringing a gun to school with her
I can guess why she'd do that You can't tell someone what they should be interested in. Are you just a supposed to let someone beat you up?
I don't know how he said that with a straight face. Are you just a supposed to let someone beat you up?
Yeah of course you are, and then nothing happens to the bully until you raise your fist at them, THEN IT'S A BIG DEAL. Makes no sense at all.
Stupid as this is, I hope they don't seriously charge the kid - if anything this makes a good case for teaching kids gun safety in school specifically to avoid this crap.
Stupid as this is, I hope they don't seriously charge the kid - if anything this makes a good case for teaching kids gun safety in school specifically to avoid this crap.
The kid brought a loaded weapon to school, the weapon went off, and people got seriously hurt. Why wouldn't they charge them?
The kid brought a loaded weapon to school, the weapon went off, and people got seriously hurt. Why wouldn't they charge them?
Depending on what source you read she either thought it wasn't real or didn't realise it was loaded, so malicious intent isn't there and the fact she's 12 should weigh into this since any serious charges/sentencing could fuck her for years.
