VERIZON IS KILLING TUMBLR’S FIGHT FOR NET NEUTRALITY
In 2014, Tumblr was on the front lines of the battle for net neutrality. The company stood alongside Amazon, Kickstarter, Etsy, Vimeo, Reddit, and Netflix during Battle for the Net’s day of action. Tumblr CEO David Karp was also part of a group of New York tech CEOs that met with then-FCC chairman Tom Wheeler in Brooklyn that summer, while the FCC was fielding public comment on new Title II rules. President Obama invited Karp to the White House to discuss various issues around public education, and in February 2015 The Wall Street Journal reported that it was the influence of Karp and a small group of liberal tech CEOs that swayed Obama toward a philosophy of internet as public utility.
I doubt Verizon's purchase of Yahoo was with the intention of silencing Tumblr.

Sorry, But that's what article's title said in big bold unfortunately.
Plus, I'm was trying to fix title but it's stuck until Moderator fixed it.
100% expected.
Expect more buyouts to shut up pro-net-neutrality companies soon.
Net neutrality is dead, and Pai killed it. He doesn't need any help from Verizon.
No real surprise that Verizon is putting pressure on Tumblr to shut up. Net neutrality is a huge risk to them, they have no reason to shelter such a huge proponent of it under their wings.

I'd dare say that censoring speech on the matter will push even more people away from tumblr given that it is something of a "liberal" hub in many areas.
But you are right in regards to Pai, he needs to be made a target in this fight. Guy can get fucked.
This isn't the only stunt they're pulling. They're also locking out anyone who signed up to Tumblr or Flickr with an AT&T-affiliated email address.
