Los Angeles’ roller coaster campaign to host the Olympics for a third time — an effort marked by early defeat and last-second negotiations — reached a conclusion Wednesday when the city was formally awarded the 2028 Summer Games. International Olympic Committee members voted their approval with a show of hands at a session in Lima, Peru, ending an unusual bid competition that resulted in two winners, with Paris simultaneously awarded the 2024 Games. The private LA 2028 bid committee has vowed to control costs by using existing venues such as the Coliseum and Staples Center, as well as the Rams’ stadium currently under construction in Inglewood. Bid leaders have emphasized that the city’s two previous Games, in 1932 and 1984, were financially successful. From the start, Paris insisted it could not wait. Negotiations between L.A. and the IOC began in earnest in July and within weeks, the deal was done. In return for going second, L.A. will not have to pay tens of millions in IOC fees and will get a $180-million advance, most of which will go to funding youth programs citywide beginning as soon as next year. LA 2028 will also receive a larger slice of IOC revenues and will not have to give the IOC a standard 20% of its surplus if the Games run under budget.
Source
I certainly wish them luck.
My condolences to anybody living in LA around then, I can only imagine how shitty traffic is going to be in 2028 without the Olympics fucking it up even further.
Tokyo, Paris, LA, sole lineup

As soon as I read this headline I just tried to imagine how it could possibly be worse than it is now.

Also metro projects will accelerate to get completed in time for the start of the Olympics.

They are already deep in years long work to expand public transportation expected to be completed well before 2028. that being said this is definitely a factor in me wanting to get the fuck out of LA and into somewhere quieter like burbank :v:

Every single day there's a gigantic traffic jam both ways on every single freeway that goes through LA from 4-7PM. That, and road crews here drag their asses for YEARS so it'd be an ongoing issue
Unless they spend trillions on traffic infrastructure and public transport LA is going to have half of the audience watching it on their phones. Tokyo and Paris aren't going to have that problem.
Paris has a backwards traffic system (quite literally in some cases) where for example everywhere else in France, you give priority to the left on a roundabout (priority to those already on it) but in Paris you give priority to the right (those wanting to join the roundabout). This isn't normally too big of a problem because anyone using the Parisian road network understand it, but if a massive influx of tourists were to happen for an event like the Olympics, I would question whether "Paris isn't going to have that [traffic] problem."
2028? Sounds catchy, and apocalyptic. I hope they build the stadium big enough for Niburu to come watch too.
wow thats a lot of olympic games.
wow look at those terms
Good news. The Olympics are so much better when they're not in shithole countries.
My condolences to anybody living in LA around then, I can only imagine how shitty traffic is going to be in 2028 without the Olympics fucking it up even further.
I'm in the valley so hopefully not that much. Anywhere else? God help them. It's already hard enough getting through.
D.C. probably could work 100x better, the city is set up for being shut down and detoured efficiently. It's too bad Boston was too in debt/disorganized to host the Olympics. I get the Olympics can be a shitshow and really put cities in a disadvantage, and Boston traffic truly sucks. But, having the games close enough to me that I could either stay home or at my Grandma's in Cambridge would be really nice. Reality is though, Boston's problems are still too big to ever handle the influx the Olympics bring to cities. It took me a while to realize the points people made in their arguments to not have them, but once I started getting it, things made sense. LA has a lot more infrastructure, and is much more accustomed to hosting HUGE events. But overall, it just doesn't seem like the best US city to host the games.

From LA to Vegas.
