In the opposite of an intricate heist, a rowdy mob in Ireland took advantage of an apocalyptic blizzard to ransack a local Lidl store. The looters thought big, hijacking an excavator to smash through the roof and scoop out a safe.
The Irish government sent soldiers to help the police, who struggled to break through the snow barricades erected by the looters to get to the scene in Jobstown, Tallaght, some 14 kilometers from Dublin. The officers were pelted with snowballs and rocks as they attempted to approach the store, the Irish Independent reported.
While it normally only takes minutes to get to the suburb, the Storm Emma, which has been wreaking havoc across Europe, disrupted traffic and slowed down police response times. Seizing the opportunity, several dozen unruly youths got ahold of an excavator and demolished the roof of a Lidl convenience store. Videos posted on social media show the digger tearing the building apart in several scoops.

it's the gypsies
holy crap that's bonkers
Any excuse for scumbags to be scumbags. Here in my town just 20 minutes away people are out helping shops clear their sidewalks and helping each other in rural areas get supplies and generally in a good mood enjoying the unusual weather.

10 or so vehicles parked in area were broken into and torched.

It definitely happened. It's all over Facebook and everything. We don't get snow like that often so the whole country ground to a halt. Most people went out and enjoyed the rare weather, while these knackers robbed Lidl. Heard in work there was some other place in Dublin ransacked too, but I haven't seen any news.
Not surprised it's Tallaght. That place is a complete shithole.
No one was prepared for it to be this bad here. As it says in the OP it's the worst snow storm in Ireland for 36 years. This has never happened before in my lifetime. Yesterday my brother and mother went out to the shop, which normally takes 10 minutes to reach, they took 40 minutes to get there are were stuck waiting for almost 4 hours as the shop was only letting in 5 people at a time.
Oh wow, I remember spotting the snaps of this going down last night. Didn't think much of it until I looked again and they were using a goddamn digger to destroy a building. To get to the safe. Not surprised of the outcome though.
Yeah this started out as a snapchat of lads going around in a stolen dump truck full of snow throwing snowballs at people.

I'm suprised this doesn't happen more often in the US actually...

You'd get shot to pieces in minutes. Pretty good motivation to not do it

Joking aside this is really shitty for the people who work there and are probably going to lose money

Hope they catch those assholes, what the hell

From what I heard, they tried to drive the JCB back to their estate and the Gardaí caught them easily
I 100% read this as lobsters
One day I went to Lidl...
Heard about this, this is near me, pisses me off so much.
All these fucking lowlife scumbags who are on social welfare their entire life - have kids and then just let them run wild in local community, doing whatever they want because those shitty parents dont care.
Once kids grow up - this is what happens - we get a bunch of scumbags.
I hope each one of them gets caught and prosecuted.
Looting, even without counting in the wanton property damage is pathetic. Literal barbarians taking their society back to stone age for the sake of a minor selfish gain.
There was also a Centra shop broken into. You can't take your eyes off Tallaght scumbags for a second.
