Turkish NBA Player Enes Kanter Detained in Romania After Turkish Embassy Cancels Passport
"The reason behind it is just, of course, my political views," Kanter, who turned 25 Saturday, said in the video. "And the guy who did it is Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the president of Turkey."
Kanter has been an outspoken critic of Erdogan, which has caused tensions in his home country, as he is one of the most famous professional athletes from Turkey. Kanter is a known supporter of Fethullah Gulen, an Islamic leader and the face of the "Gulen Movement."
You do have to ask yourself though how much pressure they are being put under by the government if any to disown him. I imagine they still live in the country. I know the country isn't strictly a dictator ship (yet) but it is going in a funny direction. At the same time it could all be genuine feelings in which case its very sad to hear.

They do still live in the country. Kanter moved from Turkey so I'm assuming(hoping) it's more disowning him under threat of incarceration.

Probably one of the easiest ways to become a US or other citizen of a country better than Turkey.

To become a famous NBA player, that is an easy way to escape Turkey? Okay
