Royal Mail, an important postal service and courier company in the UK, unveiled a new electric truck made by Arrival.
The company is starting a trial today with 3 versions of the vehicle to transport packages between its mail and distribution centres around London.
...
They claim that the trucks are built using a “revolutionary ultra-lightweight composite materials that significantly reduce the weight of the vehicle and by combining this technology with Arrival’s custom built hardware, including power electronics and motors, the cost of operating has been reduced by more than 50%.”
They say that they optimized the maximum range to weight ratio for inner city deliveries with battery packs enabling up to 100 miles of range on 3.5, 6 and 7.5 tonne trucks.

I hope they don't rear end someone.
It's cute, looks futuristic.
I too enjoy having virtually 0 forward crumple zones, especially the part where my skull is flattened against the windshield and my guts spray all over peoples letters
jokes aside, it looks okay-ish
Oh man i love that, this is the awesome/dumb future car style i've been waiting for.
So will the modern gritty reboot of Postman Pat have this?
It's super adorable and great recognition value with it being so similar visually to the New London Bus. Makes a lot of sense to have an electric vehicle doing city deliveries. They cost almost nothing in terms of cost and pollution to idle, something a mail van would probably spend the majority of its life doing.
It looks like overwatch.
It looks so cool. Like a blend between old and new.
It brings a tear to my eye.
No side mirrors?
No side mirrors?
Or actual handles on the doors, for that matter.
Looks cute, glad to see the slowly but surely uprising and adaption of EV's.
No side mirrors?
probably utilises cameras
It looks like a rubber bath toy.
probably utilises cameras
Wonder how the energy to run the cameras compares to the energy required to move the extra weight of side mirrors.

I think it's more that the cameras can't get lopped off by hitting something.

Neither is in any way statistically significant at the speeds this thing will be.
LMFTFY
They claim that the trucks are built using a “revolutionary ultra-lightweight composite materials that significantly reduce the weight of the vehicle and by combining this technology with Arrival’s custom built hardware, including power electronics and motors and completely fucking ruining it all with no thought put into aerodynamics whatsoever, the cost of operating has been reduced by more than 50%.”

3D render, expect those to be added in after.
The Arrival vehicles have been designed to be able to run on their battery for 100 miles and the firm says they will produce zero emissions for this time. A dual power mode within the vehicles can be used after the first 100 miles to top-up the battery. The final versions of the vehicles will also be autonomous-ready and it's likely they will use some of the same artificial intelligence systems being used by Roborace's self-driving cars.
We future now lads.
It looks a helluvalot better than that future/retro VW T1 thing that was posted earlier this week.
I wanna hug it. It looks adorable.
It's so cute, hope I get to see one driving around London

Yeah, but he will be an unemployed alcoholic because the self driving mail trucks took over.
I personally like it, looks like a great example of function over form, it may not be particularly pleasing to the eye, but it looks like it'd be great to drive due to how much overview it gives you
It reminds me vaguely of a certain toy that Ashens covered a long time ago...

And yes, this is a real item. He didn't build it himself as a joke.
That doesn't looks too bad.
A bit like a toy, but it looks cute, yeah.
