Stationery company Paperchase has apologised for a promotional giveaway in the Daily Mail after it was criticised for working with the paper.
The chain offered two free rolls of wrapping paper in Saturday's newspaper.
It said it was "truly sorry" after hundreds of people - encouraged by campaign group Stop Funding Hate - urged the chain to end the partnership.

It said in a statement: "The Mail has only run one promotion with Paperchase - who are not an advertiser - and had no plans for any more, so it is disingenuous of them to say it won't be repeated.
"However it is deeply worrying that Paperchase should have allowed itself to be bullied into apologising - on the back of a derisory 250 Facebook comments and 150 direct tweets - to internet trolls orchestrated by a small group of hard left Corbynist individuals seeking to suppress legitimate debate and impose their views on the media.
"Has the company considered what message they are sending to the four million people who read the Daily Mail on Saturday, many of whom will be their customers?"
This is exactly the opposite of what their mission statement is, why do people listen to this paper at all anymore?

It confirms their world view.

Whose world view?

You know when you have a problem and when you research it, there's a few possibilities as to what could be the cause of it? And when the most likely cause has a solution that you don't like, you pick a different cause because it'll be easier to deal with? Then you make sure to only pay attention to articles or pages that say you're right to reassure yourself you're right even though you know you're ignoring the more likely cause?
It's like that.

Yeaaaaah, this country's been in the shitter for a while.
For a laugh, have a look here for a list of things that the Daily Mail has said cause or cure cancer: http://kill-or-cure.herokuapp.com/

Sometimes I think that perhaps the political climate in this country isn't really as bad as it's made out to be, and then I read a major newspaper blaming communists for trying to bring down the media. Fuck this timeline.
I feel this is as good a time as any for The Mail, Sun and Daily Express to all be removed from sale. They're not giving legitimate debate, they're spreading hate messages and they're not contributing anything positive to journalism. Nobody can defend that spreading messages of hate is under freedom of speech - that's not what free speech is about. These aren't opinions, they're hate pieces.

Do you expect anything else from the paper that literally supported hitler until he started bombing them? :v:
sounds ott but ok
Oh no I'm sure that the papers that ran these front pages are totally fair and not at all trying to incite hatred;

In particular the one about the judges where they made a point to highlight that one of them was one of the gays (hisssss). And that's ignoring the repeated legal trouble News Corp run papers like The Sun have gotten in for wiretapping that straight up killed News of the World.
Ban the whole fucking lot of them unless they clean up their acts. The tabloids are little more than right-wing fear inducing propaganda machines.

Looks like I'm safe.

If it sounds over the top that's because it is. These tabloids frequently post rabid scaremongering falsehood and undisguised bigotry.
So yeah, over the top, but that's on the The Daily Mail not him.

What should the criteria be for bans on media outlets?

Simple, don't spread misinformation.

How much misinformation? All media has done it to an extent

The Daily Mail is textbook outrage fuelling, agenda driven writing. They abuse language to undermine the credibility of experts and the humanity of the people they see as the enemy. The stuff they've written about transpeople, refugees, anyone who is in some way anti hard brexit doesn't exist to inform people, it exists to marginalise and to cause hate. They often lie or severely twist the truth only to hide the corrections in the corner so no one ever really sees them.

They used the photos below without consent, consistently mis-gendered the transpeople in the article and abused language to discredit expert opinion in favour of bigoted parents.

This is in addition to all of the Brexit based and anti refugee virtriol mentioned above.
It's not just the mail either, this article in the Telegraph looks at the line between poltical debate and inciting personal attacks and jumps across it with glee by using photos under a headline labelling them 'mutineers'.

Encouraging advertisers to not engage with companies who incite hatred often against the most vulnerable and marginalised groups is the only way to really deal with this without proper press regulation which we aren't going to get right now.
This isn't just accidental misinformation, it's bare-faced lying to use the fears and bigotry of their readers to marginalise and hurt others.
