I really enjoyed the whole 8 seasons
Good luck OP.
before the overwhelmingly negative replies get here, might as well post the one thing i do like about the show: simon helberg's impressions
This show is blackface for nerds.
This show is blackface for nerds.
I dunno, I think it's contributed in a helpful way to making 'nerdy' stuff (i.e., the things we used to get shat on for) acceptable in mainstream society. D&D, MMOs, etc. Yeah it's a bit unfaithful and genericised and misrepresentative, but I'm stoked about being able to talk about gaming at a party without feeling like I'm being hella judged

I think the question really is: are the viewers laughing with or at the gang? For better or worse a community previous ignored had a light shined on it. Plus the show's stereotypes lead to some sweeping generalizations irl. I remember way back being told I'm Howard, with my friends were Raj, Leonard and Sheldon etc. We happily went along with it at the time, I was really into it actually, I made a Stewart (the comic book guy) Twitter RP account that ended up with over 1.5k followers, but in hindsight I just feel stupid. I mean nobody really shits on us for gaming and stuff like that, we're just ignored by people who don't care. Did TBBT really cause that?
I think this show started off well but just keeps getting more and more out of touch to the point where the characters are annoying on purpose. It's those moments where they do really sitcomish things like make obvious bad decisions and behave in a very scripted and predictable way. The laugh track covers up the overly cliche jokes which have too much the 'Road runner and Coyote' effect. The sets are obvious and give the show too much of an 80s/90s look. I mean there are a few references, but it's just not enjoyable. Silicon Valley is much more in touch with the life style and doesn't need a laugh track.
The show is recorded with a live audience, so the "laugh tracks" are real.
They must be telling them when to laugh, because the jokes aren't that funny.

The show also suffers from typical sitcom character creep - in the pilot episode it's directly implied that Sheldon is a serial masturbator, whereas now he's an asexual pedant whose only purpose in the show is to annoy everybody else. The portrayal and treatment of Raj's social anxiety REALLY pisses me off as well. It pisses me off that I even know so much about it - everybody I know loves and watches this show and I think it's carcinogenic. Simon Helberg's pretty good though.
That's precisely my problem with Big Bang Theory. When people tell me it's a show for nerds, I always have to point out how the jokes aren't for nerds, they're at nerds. A joke for nerds would mean that you'd need to be part of this group to understand the joke, when in reality it's just 'look at this thing nerds do, ha ha!' At the same time, since this is what mainstream culture sees as 'nerds' these days, the show managed to get a lot of famous guest stars. And again, it's not like you'd need to understand the history of these guest stars to get their jokes. Like the Steve Wozniak episode- I don't remember any of the jokes actually revolving around who Wozniak was, and more around Sheldon being on a computer screen. Didn't Wozniak literally say 'nerds' in the punchline to that one?

sometimes when i go to my one friend's house his parents steal the tv away from us to watch this and it pains me to sit there and listen to it in the background while i fiddle around with my laptop you know like when you're dozing off in bed and suddenly your body spasms for a split second that's what this show does to me emotionally
They left a cliffhanger at a really dumb time imo.
