A helicopter carrying senior government officials has crashed in the Asir Region in southwest Saudi Arabia, killing an unknown number of people, local officials say. Only few details were immediately available. The incident happened late on Sunday afternoon local time when the aircraft disappeared from radar over the kingdom's Asir Region. The aircraft was carrying a number of regional officials, including Prince Mansour bin Muqrin, the deputy governor of the Assir region.
Any ideas if this is related to the ballistic missile that was intercepted?

Probably not, though the region they crashed in does border Yemen.
I heard from the radio today, or maybe yesterday, that many Saudi officials and even princes were arrested or stripped of their rank to weed out corruption. Related? :tinfoil:
No, not Prince Muqrin!
Holy shit, this day is going fucking haywire.
Also this is in the Asir region, and the Houthis have been active in that area. If this turns out too be a shootdown, holy fuck are the Sauds gonna lose their minds.
No idea what is really going on but just reading the other news about Saudi Arabia with the "corruption purge" this feels connected or just very bad timing and/or in connection with the intercepted missle.

More curious if this has to do with the Crown Prince going through a massive purge for corruption.
too much news for a sunday, come back tomorrow please
Conspericies popping up saying it’s “scripted” due to one of the royal family wants to rise to power. They’ve been also arresting clerics talking about this and disapproving the Qatar blockade, the only clerics left are ones who bend the rules of Islam because the royal family has money

My crazy conspiracy friend is saying that saudia fired the rocket at themselves and blocked it. Trying to give the blame to Yemen AND Iran for some reason. Sounds too silly for me

Sounds plausible considering how much Saudi hates Iran and Yemen
Any reason to bomb Yemen to beyond ashes is good enough for them

Actually, I'm surprised none of the rumours mention Qatar, to be honest. There are rumours coming out of some dark corners of the Saudi government saying that a potential coup (aka a 1970's style Omani coup) was thwarted and the people responsible are the ones that have been arrested on corruption charges. Supposedly, the reason for the Saudi government stopping short of their "dire consequences" against Qatar was because Qatar basically gave them the info.

They dont need any reason to bomb Yemen. They are pretty much in an active war with them.
However I can see them destroying a helicopter like this and putting the blame on a crash.
