• Why is Black History Manditory?

It's my senior year in highschool in a week, and one class in particular is one I don't look forward to, Black History. Not because I hate blacks, not because I don't care, but because it's a goddamn waste of a class I could use for something so much more important. Every World History, Social Studies, or even Geography class has covered black history, and when put together- it provides a pretty damn extensive chronicle of the black man, although quite a few parts were left out and probably will be in this class from what I've heard from past students. Is it necessary to force us to learn about the history and culture of a single race, especially one that I'm not part of and currently don't need to be further educated upon? Do you guys have mandatory classes like this in your countries/states, I'm curious.
We don't even have a voluntary/elective class for black history, let alone a mandatory one. Seems dumb.
i do. its annoying as hell. i get it. black people struggled but can also be smart and do important stuff. we learned this in 6th grade. don't need to learn it again.
We have to pick one of several Canadian history courses: -Canadian history -Black Canadian studies -Mi'kmaq studies -Gaelic studies I guess if you live somewhere where they were formerly persecuted I could see why it's in the curriculum. If, like you said, this course fills in a lot of the blanks that have not already been covered, I wouldn't complain. Gives you a more rounded world view if anything.
Honestly I find the fact that they have specific courses over blacks only, but not for every other minority, pretty discriminatory and honestly, i think that it harms the unification and acceptance of races in the West ore than it helps.
Because the powerful blacks believe that the descendants of their oppressors owe them something.
They want you to feel like an asshole for being white.
Because the powerful blacks believe that the descendants of their oppressors owe them something.
hurf durf 40 acres and a mule [sp]Yes I know that this promise was a desparate war promise so the blacks would help the settlers fight against the native americans[/sp]
