• Call of Duty Type Military Games or Doom Type Twitch Shooters?

Pretty self-explanatory title. Do you prefer games like Painkiller and Quake, or games like Battlefield and the new Medal of Honor games? Realistic and practical weapons and somewhat realistic themes versus exotic weapons, enemies and themes? While I like military shooters,.nothing beats blowing a monster's head off after running up to it at 60 miles per hour with a flak gun/lightening gun.
Offtopic: I would title this thread "Military Shooters VS. Twitch Shooters", as CoD is closer to twitch shooting than anything. Ontopic; I prefer my video games to play like video games, not simulations. I despise realism in video games, when it's used in a hindering way. (I.E. vaulting/momentum systems not letting me move as fast as I react, so I get killed.)
CoD is not a 'military shooter', it's one of the closest thing to twitch shooting in the mainstream market. Battlefields a 'military' game. Doom will always, ALWAYS, be better than CoD.
I guess I should've tried to label them as spunkgargleweewee games as Yahtzee does, rather than military.
Twitch shooters. It requires more reflexive skill, but a military shooter like Arma requires more squad co-operation and strategic sense. I prefer twitch shooters because...well, go play Half-Life Deathmatch and try to survive the entire round without dying. Never going to happen.
Twitch shooters. I like both, but nothing beats the feeling of winning any kind of match against a skilled player in a twitch shooter. Plus I love how games like UT have stuff like this while you play, gets me pumped
M4 is really overused, so I will go with Doom.
This poll is missing Half-Life. Neither too fast, or too serious.
neither i enjoy innovative FPSes
CoD IS Quake
I swear that military realism is eliminating all the wacky fun ideas.
Where's the neither option? They both are getting kind of over done, in my opinion.
Typical weapons in the two game types.
What the fuck game has a Tesla cannon as a weapon? I need this game.
What the fuck game has a Tesla cannon as a weapon? I need this game.
Fallout 3 has it if I remember correctly. Also Return to Castle Wolfenstein has one for sure.
Would games like Tribes be classified as twitch shooters? They're a lot more like Doom than they are CoD
Both
I'd say this poll would have a better chance if you were putting DOOM against Half-Life, since before Half-Life the FPS was all about running around undescript areas with some kinds of monsters/nazis in it for no reason and you have to kill them all, scouring the levels for secrets, and after Half-Life FPS turned into the cinematic plot shooter where actual gameplay comes second
Both, if I had to choose from Mil sim vs Arcade (Twitch.. w/e). I used to play a lot of CS, DOD, Quake at school for funzies, classroom lan parties where a blast. But when I got home I fired up ArmA and played with a bunch of British folks from a mil sim unit. Nothing beats teamwork imo, also.. 4 hour long missions.
I'm guessing what you mean by military vs twitch shooters is like Halo vs Counter-Strike. If so I'd probably go with the former. The twitchiness required for Counter-Strike and its steep 'learning curve' is absolutely ridiculous. I've put so many hours into twitchy kind of games but I always end up getting heaps frustrated. It's not that much, but this statement is coming from someone with at least 68 hours on CS:S and 47 on DoD:S (http://steamcommunity.com/id/dadropbear/games?tab=all) so if that makes my statements any more valid or not then whatever.
I swear that military realism is eliminating all the wacky fun ideas.
Serious Sam BFE for example does a good job of unifying wackiness with realism IMO.
DooM and Serious Sam will always have a special place in my heart due to the really fast and monsterridden gameplay but I occasionally eenjoy playing a few matches of CoD aswell. It just comes down to reference, really. I really enjoy fictional crazy weapons above real weqpons aswell.
Out of the 2, the better one would be Twitch shooters. Pure twitch shooters though in my opinion just get boring quickly. I like a middle-ground FPS the most, like Half-Life 2.
I'm not sure if either.
I think they are just different and can't quite be compared. Wouldn't call CoD too much of a military shooter as people stated above. But things like ARMA just have a special position. So both.

Not saying your that type but legitimately wondering, I guess it's because I find realism games really deep and rewarding so I don't understand why people don't like them.
What the fuck game has a Tesla cannon as a weapon? I need this game.
Blood and Quake 2 and 4. I remember seeing it in other games too.
Would games like Tribes be classified as twitch shooters? They're a lot more like Doom than they are CoD
I don't think so. They're extremely fast paced, but the games rely more on predicting where the enemy is going to be where they land instead of twitch-based midair shots and bunnyhopping like in Quake/Doom. The older Tribes also have a huge emphasis on team based gameplay.
I love arma, but I also love twitch shooters. Although having to choose and choosing military shooters mean we get all the same that we already have? I have to go with twitch. Twitch shooters simply have more games that are well made, compared to cod which is the same, medal of honor which nobody cares about anymore and battlefield which I'm getting skeptical about.
