So I'm grinding a lot of item levels and character levels in a game and I want some music to listen to in the background. Seeing how it's more background music than something I'd "actively" listen to genre doesn't matter that much. Hell, it can be classical music if you really think it's good background music. Tho just one song isn't gonna cut it for long; it'd be better if it were a playlist or something.
Waste of time.
Listen to something upbeat and go for a run instead.

If you really must waste your time grinding, check out Ratatat.

Whenever I got a relatively long task ahead, I like to listen to The Wall. It's like a full-length movie, but for your ears only.

I think it captures the spirit of doing the same thing over and over again locked in your room for hours quite nicely.
Your avatar is in sync with it too.
Holy shit.
Give this a go, the slower beat works perfect for grinding, and is just generally great to listen to.

I think there's a slow, ambient thread in the Music section, also this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mauV2NdCs60
Amon Amarth, The full albulm of Surtr Rising.
That or the Daft Punk albulm Random Access Memories
I came into this thread thinking you meant grinding as in the rhythmic rubbing of an ass up against someone's crotch
Not really music but I usually listen to some standup while I do this stuff. Dave Chappelle can get you through 3 or 4 hours real quick. George Carlin is also a great choice.
Here's one I've been using and constantly adding music to.

Ratatat and Glitch Mob are both very good. Both of them, in general are solid. Got me through tough times.
I would suggest using Pandora, but I heard that site is only available to Americans. At least, that's what my Danish friend told me when he tried it. I dunno if that's changed over time, or if they have plans to change it.

In a loop.
When I used to actually unironically play MapleStory, I played the shit out of this:

was good.
