I'm probably asking an old ass question, but what are the best commercially available PCs for gaming purposes? I'd like to avoid Alienwares and similar computers as I hear that you're overpaying mostly just for a name brand case.
Or would it just be better to get someone to build me a PC? I'd build a PC myself. I've watched and read guides about doing so, but actually knowing what components I want to get is beyond my understanding.
Building a PC all the way. You get shit much cheaper than if you bought a prebuilt one. Just watch out for static electricity.
Building a PC yourself is the best way... otherwise
Alienware or Falcon-NW since they at least keep their component selection up to date.
Also, their cases are actually good. Good airflow, good amount of space, etc.
Buy a Mac
Is cool and high quality plastic
Just go visit the Hardware and Software section and then to PC Building and they will get you all sorted out.
I built my PC for about $900 including everything except the monitor. It can run every game I throw at it at full graphics without a problem. To get a similar PC would cost about $1500. The only part you really have to worry about when building it is the wiring. It took 2 hours or something out of the 3 we spent on it.
I'd say build it, but if you absolutely have to get a prebuilt:

is good for a starter gaming build at a cheaper price. The tower is huge, for easy upgrading, and I can run most games on high with the parts it came with. The processor is pretty good but the video card could use updating.

that prebuilt wont run any new games better than low. OP, just build one.

I'm using it right now, and I beg to differ.

iBuyPower is just as bad a brand as Dell in my opinion.
I would build one, you can get better stuff, and not just the hardware they through in, with all the bloat ware and such.
