So I'm back with yet [I]another[/I] survey question!

I've decided to make this a little thing here depending on the kind of reviews I get based on it. I love surveying my friends with these questions, and I'm curious as to larger population answers.
So here is the deal this time. Lets say that you are 25. Something curious has started happening since your 25th birthday. Every time you are about to fall asleep, [I]right before you actually do[/I], all the sudden it feels like you have been taser-ed (shocked with electricity). Your body undergoes massive twitches and jerks, you can almost feel the electricity pouring through your veins, and it [B]hurts[/B]. And then you are asleep. It doesn't matter if you are taking a nap or if you pass out after a night spent partying, it will [I]always happen[/I].
So like any sensible guy you go to the doctor. Apparently this is quite a common condition usually known as "Holy [sp]Fucking[/sp] Balls I Get Taser-ed In My Sleep"-itis, or HFBIGTIMS for short. There is good news. This disease won't kill you. Even if you are 87 with a weak heart and falling asleep in a pool of water, you won't die (unless you drown in that case). It just hurts like hell and is embarrassing to fall asleep in public places like on an airplane.
But good news! There is a cure! All you have to do is take this pill once! Mild side effects include deafness.
Complete and utter deafness. You can no longer hear if you take this pill. Ever. Again. Is it worth it to escape literally the HORRIBLE HORRIBLE PAIN?
You decide. You can discuss it and ask questions here, I will try and answer them if possible.
Oh and in case people don't understand completely, I only use taser as a reference point. It hurts a lot worse, but you lose muscle control like you do when you are taser-ed.

Hearing would be too important. I can take some painkillers for the pain. I'd still feel a nice portion of good ol' hurting and probably develop a Dr. House-ish addiction, but at least it would be a little more bearable and most of all, I keep my goddamn ears.
Yep, painkillers as i feel drowsy, let the pain hit, and then nod off.

Get an operation to tweak my pain-detecting part of the brain so I feel overall less pain. Dangerous, but better than dealing with HFBIGTIMS-itis or deafness.

Some serious head traumas can make you insensitive to pain. Which is dangerous, because you won't know if,say, you placed your hand onto a hotplate or if you have a knife in your ass. Neurosurgery could do something similar in this case, it's not a stupid way out, just incredibly complex and dangerous.

i know you can get numb from head trauma, but they don't do surgery to that. they can't do that.
it's a stupid way out because it's not an answer to the op's question, just fucking answer the survey, don't act smartass.

you know it funny how you put conditions like painkillers dont work or your hearing is gone for good, which is completely incorrect in both situations, as BOTH are simply nerves stimulated, which can be replaced with electronics. +, there is always a source to the pulses, so you could remove the pain otherwise.

There's not even a sickness that tazes you while you try to sleep or a magic pill that heals you but makes you go deaf.

Lose the hearing. Getting fucking tortured every fucking time you sleep, I would probably kill myself.
I'd probably develop some kind of 'embrace' for the pain to be honest. Not a tolerance, but an acceptance.
Like how falling off a bike can be fun if you do it enough.

I think he was referring to the fact that you'd be absolutely terrified to fall asleep.
So the easy solution would be to get on anesthesia or something similar before I went to bed, so I would effectively be numb the entire night, but wouldn't feel the taze.
