• Games with good magic systems?

Lately, I've been really tired of all the generic and often unbalanced magic systems in games. Does anyone know of any games with somehow interesting magic systems? They could be totally different in how they work (doing away with mana entirely), or could have a twist on the classic system, or just have interesting spells. Games which really make the player feel powerful instead of just making you pelt piss weak fireball spells at monsters would be nice too - in a lot of games, the caster archetype feels like the weakest. If anyone is going to suggest Magicka, I've already played it - but that's the kind of thing I'm looking for. Thanks!

I can't really think of anything else that has a system that's similar to magicka's. Oblivion has spellcrafting and a decent magic system if you choose to play a caster, and skyrim looks like it'll be even better. I know what you mean, I wish a lot of games had more complex magic systems.
Doesn't necessarily have to be similar to Magicka. Even a traditional system with cool spells would be fine.
If I recall Two Worlds II had a cool magic-mixing system. if I recall someone made two spells; one that made anvils fall from the sky and one that swirled those anvils around as a shield.
Arx Fatalis had a really interesting and cool magic system
War Mage in Oblivion, and then in SKyrim!
The Wheel of Time game, (set way before the books) had a load of interesting spells used in an FPS context. You ended up with several "direct attack" spells, but some of the others (you had a lot) would do things like rot enemies, or freeze them. Also, it's a quake style game, so you've got all of the jumping and the like - fireball jumping.
