Legality of providing free water in the United States

Someone told me once that the law in the United States says that any restaurant/place etc. that can provide free water (ex. they have a sink and a cup) must do so if requested. Does anybody know if this is true?
although i reside in the UK not US, and i don't know if it's definately true, it's something i've heard about many, many times. something to do with them must being able to provide at least one form of drink at no cost to the customer.
It's like that in many countries, I think.
You can usually get free refills from most places too, they just dont tell you.
Yeah. I am mostly sure that they have to provide you with water. Whether you have to be a paying customer or not I dont know.
Ask if you could have a glass of water almost ANYWHERE and they would be kind enough to give you it anyways.
I don't see why they shouldn't so the law would be just plain ridiculous.
i went into a tim hortons and asked for 9 cups of water and they told me to leave

You're only supposed to ask for one. :raise:

But, it's free.
water should be free. what would people do? store it in a secret compartment to take home and bathe in? nah if you were just sitting down eating "can i get some water" and didnt want to pay then you would have to pay but if you were in need of it like an emergency you wouldnt have to pay for it. water is cheap ass shit. its not like gold jesus!
Part of the humans right. Every human being has the right to free food, water and shelter in quantity enough for their survival. Of course this doesn't apply in many situations due to the world not being perfect. But this is a start.
So yea, you can't charge for a glass of water.

Actually, it's becoming quite uncommon. Drinking water is the biggest problem after remaining oil reserves. Many countries are having serious water trouble and I'm not just talking about Middle African countries. I'm talking about countries that actually have pipes to run water but are dry.

But if it's a real restaurant, they can charge you for using one of their cups.

They can and do charge for whatever they want to and you are willing to pay for. They have fucking oxygen bars! You pay to breath pure oxygen!
Water may be something everyone should have but it does not mean you have to drink the cold clean water that is pumped out by the water treatment plant. That's what they charge for. However, most places don't charge for water.

Thats in interesting way to put it; apparently those oxygen bars make you "high", or really relaxed, for lack of a better word.
I know Taco Bell provides free waters; the cashiers usually have a tray of waters for people to drink.
im not sure it they legally have to do it. but they'll do it anyway. Besides, if it's a proper restaurant they give you water regardless when they seat you

When you breath there isn't only oxygen in the air so when you breath pure oxygen there is more going to the brain making is work better/faster, you could take it as being high. But as soon as you don't have the pure oxygen in your lungs/blood it's over.

Breathing completely pure oxygen is lethal.

Over several hours.
Wait.....why did you want to know this?
Beacuse not everyone lives in the U.S.A
dont care...why would he want to know it? Project or sumthing?
I think you can get free tap water from anywhere. But purified water, no.
Purified water is almost the same as good tap water. Only difference between tap water and bottled water is one is run through one (if any) more filters and then labeled!
The water around where I live is one of the best in the US. I have had it in other parts of the US and Canada but all together the water in the US and any developed area will be fine to drink.
Where I live everyplace that serves food has to give you iced water due to the heat regardless of if you intend on buying food or not, though almost nobody goes into a place without at least buying a side just to not be a dick.
