So I just opened up my steam folder and saw this:

I don't remember having any software installed that uses these icons nor having icons like this in my steam folder in the first place the last time I opened it.
Just look at it:

That doesn't look like the face of mercy to me.
Perhaps there's someone out there who had a similar incident or can explain to me what the fuck this is since google wasn't really helpful.
Everyone gets them
I have seen then on numerous steam installations and have never known what they do

Afaik the files are related to your games. But the icons are what worries me
Sick dog though.

They tell steam when it loads that library's directory what's installed.
What it won't tell you is how broken they are.
You could have the acf file of Half Life 2 in there and the directory will exist but if you haven't gotten the game actually installed then it will shit a brick at you each time you wanna start it.[/QUOTE]
Wait, if Microsoft Agent was discontinued in 2003, why the fuck are they still using the file type? Support for Agent itself was discontinued with the release of Windows 8. I don't get it.

Because Steam's backend is based off code from early 2000's, don't be surprised at all that it's using discontinued file types and code.
Steam was released in 2003 but it'd been in development since 2002 and around that time, it wasn't discontinued, no point reinventing the wheel if it still works, specially with the mentality of Valve.

sounds about right
also probably why it looked like they scraped working on a html version of the library tab on the steam client

Steam isn't using Microsoft's format, they are just using the same extension.
