• Poll on the origin of Humans
    30 replies, posted
My brother is trying to gather some data concerning peoples beliefs on the origin of mankind. I thought I might share it here to give him a shot at getting more answers. The poll only has one question: "How do you believe Humans came to Exist on Earth." So if some of you would be willing to take a few seconds to answer it will be appreciated. http://poll.pollcode.com/75727426 [editline]edit[/editline] Apparently the poll does not automatically update, so you may not see the numbers change immediately after your vote.
29% creationism still makes me weep
Creationism is more popular than intelligent design? I mean, both are stupid, but lesser of two weevils, man.
29% creationism still makes me weep
Maybe like 75% of those are intentionally fucking with the results?
Maybe like 75% of those are intentionally fucking with the results?
It's idiots like that who give credibility to the whole "see look at these statistics are all 30,000 people wrong?!" argument. Even worse than actually believing it, pretending to believe in it imo.
I thought "intelligent design" was just what creationists used to make it sound more credible to get garbage taught in schools
I thought "intelligent design" was just what creationists used to make it sound more credible to get garbage taught in schools
I think it's that they believe in evolution, but that it was guided/path laid out by a creator (all hail the sun god)
I think it's that they believe in evolution, but that it was guided/path laid out by a creator (all hail the sun god)
Which is-... Pretty good, for a fundie! At least it's not flat-out rejecting science, just sugarcoating and dumbing it down.
I think it's that they believe in evolution, but that it was guided/path laid out by a creator (all hail the sun god)
ID was specifically designed (heh) to try and get creationism taught in science classes. It's what prompted the Flying Spaghetti Monster, among other things.
I laughed at the thought of you making that joke and smirking at your computer haha.
I'm easily amused V:smile:V
I am glad that evolution in the lead, but greatly saddened by the number of genesis/creationist answers.
Maybe like 75% of those are intentionally fucking with the results?
Sadly I dont think most of them are joking. My brother also had several people on facebook share the poll, it was right after a pretty religious person shared it that a bunch of those votes came in. tbh, I believe in both Evolution and Creationism. Who's to say God didn't make evolution?
We evolved from bananas. Everyone knows this.
A series of unfortunate accidents.
Probably going to receive a good chunk of dumbs/hate for this, but I'm a Christian. I believe in evolution, the big bang theory, I believe hard scientific evidence and I do not deny hard fact. As a matter of fact I'm pretty sure the only people who do this are the Westboro Baptist Church and people who cannot operate computers. You'd be surprised how easy it is to do this as a Christian. While I believe in theories of accretion, evolution, and all these things, I believe that God set them in motion and only fine tuned them to allow the best possible environment for his progeny. Honestly? When I look at the universe and the stars and the planets, when I look at the trees, the girl I love, the complexity of small things like ant colonies, when I study chemistry and observe incredible landscapes, I just find it so beautiful that I find it difficult to believe that it's all just there for no reason, that it's all just there for nothing. It's a level of awe and beauty that, as an intelligent being, I can relate to, so who's to say that another intelligent being who shares this same sense of beauty might not have designed it, as he had the power to do so? It's just my opinion on the matter. I don't particularly believe that the world was created exactly as genesis described it, after all, God himself didn't write the Bible.
God himself didn't write the Bible.
This right here is what a shitton of religious people need to remember.
29% creationism still makes me weep
Gee, I'm sorry that I didn't vote for something you liked. Maybe that's because people have different beliefs than you.
Gee, I'm sorry that I didn't vote for something you liked. Maybe that's because people have different beliefs than you.
Did you genuinely think that I honestly believe nobody else in the entire world has one varying belief to me whatsoever? Or are you just being aggressive about it because you're worried what you voted for is a load of horse shit?
wow you sure pwned that christian failfuck
yeah take that religion!!

What isn't, is what a lot of other Christians (especially in the USA) do. http://debatelive.org/ Example of Ken Ham trying to debunk Scientific theories because they don't fit in his view. Apparently for a lot of Christians, the thought that the Bible is not 100% infallible is such a hurdle they'd rather teach lies in class than accept the fact that this book was written by Humans 2000 years ago, even more if you account for the old Testament. Inspired humans, sure. Humans who felt they had encountered God, sure. Humans who wanted to tell stories and share their views, sure. Ancient traditions that are valuable as storytelling, sure. But, all things considered, still humans, prone to error, miscommunication and influenced by the world around them. That's something you always need to consider when reading the Bible. EDIT: This is what intelligent design stands for. If you're trying to fit evolution within the "6000 (?) year-old world" frame, you get dinosaurs living next to humans. It just doesn't work.
tbh, I believe in both Evolution and Creationism. Who's to say God didn't make evolution?
God evolved from a monkey deity.
If people lived with dinosaurs, where are all of the stories and tales of people living with them?
If people lived with dinosaurs, where are all of the stories and tales of people living with them?
i don't know, why don't you let me checkmate
Hang on, what exactly is the difference between intelligent design and creationism?
Gee, I'm sorry that I didn't vote for something you liked. Maybe that's because people have different beliefs than you.
Evolution isn't really down to opinion

I identify as a deist myself which, similar to what you explained above, is a belief in a higher power based on a observation of the natural universe. But unlike Christianity, Judaism, Islam, and other "revealed" religions Deism does not make claims of miracles, does not have a holy book, does not have commandments, etc.
