Have you ever have a part of your life associated with a completely unrelated smell or tune? For example, there's this washing machine music that reminds me of Yu-Gi-Oh! whenever I hear it, probably because I used to read the comics on Saturday mornings which was also laundry day... more than 10 years ago. There was also this very specific yet indescribable smell caused by wrist + dirty mousepad that reminds me of my first playthrough of Borderlands 2. Share your stories?
Sounds pretty related to me. If the machine is making a sound that reminds you of another sound then it's probably because they sound similar. Do you have any strong feelings about Borderlands 2? Because then the smell or feel of the environment around you would reminds you of your first playthrough and what the smells or environment was like at the time. For me there's this soap which is described to smell of "nordic birch" and whenever I feel it I'm reminded of when I was in LA for the first time, because the hotel there had a soap with that exact smell.

I was simply referring to the subject of remembrance being unrelated but peculiarly linked to the trigger. Your soap smell anecdote is exactly the case.
I can understand that. For some reason I associate this specific smell of a particular brand of seaweed/cucumber shampoo and cold air with the time I started taking my exercise and running seriously over a year ago, its weird. Sometimes even the way lighting works in specific buildings, etc me back to random nostalgic feelings.
When I was younger I like to think that time travel is real and whenever we had some odd recalls that's because someone fucked up the old timeline.

For some reason, I think of the Saw movies when I hear the Rick James song "Bustin' Out"

There's actually quite a few smells from my grandparents old house that bring up old childhood memories. I couldn't really tell you what they are but when I smell them I immediately remember a bunch of random memories that I didn't even know I still had. A more recent connection is this: [t]http://target.scene7.com/is/image/Target/14704214?wid=520&hei=520&fmt=pjpeg[/t][t]https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/0/0a/Nintendo-3DS-AquaOpen.png/1200px-Nintendo-3DS-AquaOpen.png[/t] This is because my aunt has these candles in the bathroom and I usually play portable games while I use it, mostly the 3DS. :v:
I grew up in the city and i remember hearing about the fresh air of the countryside, so when we went to the countryside I smelt manure and assumed that was the "fresh air" they where talking about. I still like the smell of manure.
I have a lot of weird correlations because I watch Netflix and such in my second monitor while I play games. If you played a clip from certain portions of certain shows my mind would shoot straight to Dark Souls 2 or Mount & Blade or Fallout 4 or something [editline]a[/editline] I just saw the Black Mirror logo on Netflix and immediately throught of HITMAN™ in that one level with the golf course but in that room with the chandelier
Yeah, whenever I smell heated plastic (like the air from a computer fan) it reminds me of Oblivion. For some reason a clear image of when you get to Cyrodiil and go into the market area with all of the barrels.
Whenever I smell cocaine I get a happy memory.
My mum has a perfume that reminds me of reading the Dragon Ball comics that I borrowed from the local library
My mini-freezer makes very faint sounds that remind me of Quake 2's ambience.
Whenever I hear that weird static white noise sounds that those old CRT TV's make when on standby I get reminded of Fallout 3, specifically wandering around Megaton
The Columbine shooters remind me of being a small child, around the age of 3 or 4. I think I must have seen footage of them, because I can't think of why else it would remind me of being so young.
Certain cigarette smells remind me real well of my grandparents home in Louisiana. That and a room fan really floods my memory recall.
This one might not completely fit the theme but in my head I associate raspberry protein bar with the greatest most memorable thing I've ever tasted, followed closely by a soft shell beef taco. The taco one holds up to expectations. The protein bar one, I've tracked down and tried the one I remember several times. I'm pretty indifferent to the taste. I just have a very vivid memory of loving it when I was a kid. I think I just took a bite from my parents when I was kid and it left an impression. there is also a distinct smell of wood and grass that instantly reminds me of my grandparents home.
The smell of dry saliva reminds me of Fallout 3. Very specifically of the small stairway leading to Billy Creel's house at the back of the town, near that leak on the water pipe. This is because I was just done wearing braces at the time and had to wear a plastic mold of my teeth to keep them perfectly in place while my gums would settle in perfectly. The smell of the plastic covered in saliva is fucking burned into my mind as are those stairs.
Some floral incense smell reminds me of when I didn't have internet access and a friend let us bring our computer by to go online via dial up. She was a stoner as well as one of my mother's smoking friends and as such lit incense quite frequently for whatever reason. Couldn't have been to hide that she smoked pot as we all knew. To be specific, it reminds me of when a friend of mine burnt a copy of the installer for the Ragnarok Online Alpha and trying to play on the then overly crowded server. On dial up.
the smell of lavender oil reminds me of my ex cus I couldn't sleep and she gave me some saying it would help
Fall weather smells like my childhood playing outside.
The bathtub model from HL2/GMod and the Big Smokes Order
My original xbox's S-controller had this sharp, techy smell that take me straight back to the first time I ever played Halo: Combat evolved. It still has it if you sniff hard enough. The smell of Axe body spray takes me back to being a cringe lord piece of fucking shit in middle school. The onset of cold in autumn takes me back to freshman year of high school, where I spent a lot of time outdoors for pep band. The "This person lives with a ton of cats" smell reminds me of a girl I no longer talk to.
the smell of fresh rain on concrete reminds me of sitting in front of the fireplace at home
Whenever I smell the beach, I instantly get reminded of my childhood since I used to live near a beach and smelled it all the time. I wish they made like, incenses of it, my apartment would have them all over.
Whenever I hear 'Like a Rock' by Bob Seger I always think of early 90s Chevy trucks. And certain songs always make me think a certain kther one is gonna follow it, thanks mostly to listening heavily to n00bstories Radio growing up...and even today, station hasnt changed since.
Oh I do this with songs by Yes. I associate them with particular views of locations, and some of them make sense and some are totally random. These locations include: the frozen section of a now closed supermarket, a particular classroom from my high school, a playground from a school I went to years before I knew of the band, Lockout from Halo 2, one of the places where you can pull into my college's campus, a road on the way to a family vacation spot, the eastern side of my yard from home, the front parking lot of my high school..........
