*siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh*
Can't say I didn't see this coming.
When will devs realize that mod tools keep games alive.
This just reminded me, where are Black Ops mod tools?

In Steam -> Mod Tools.

Its out and they are terrible
They said they were returning mod tools, bullshit.
They said they were returning mod tools, bullshit.
And where did they say this?
When will devs realize that mod tools keep games alive.
Did you read the shitload of reasons that DICE gave for not having them? I won't bother linking them even.
But... everyone likes mods.
I can see why, but they should also see that people are still buying battlefield 2 to this day just for mods. I know i bought BF2 for project reality.
do you retards even bother to watch the video.
the dev, clearly stated himself, that it's far too complex to mod it.

Yes, truly look upon the barbarians who created Project Reality and Forgotten Hope 2 for Battlefield 2 and kept that game selling for years after it would have been in bargain bins. Mere brutes would not be able to understand the complexity of Frostbyte TWO POINT OH.
We know the reason, and it's a dumb one.

That shouldn't mean that if someone would want to mod it, they don't have a chance because of no mod tools.

More than can be said for Bad Company 2 and Battlefield 3.

So you didn't actually watch the video. Thanks for confirming that. They aren't saying "it's too hard to do", they're saying "your average modder PC would be incapable of doing it". They'd need to literally spend WEEKS to compile a SINGLE MAP to be playable.
Actually I did watch the video (squad leader spawns is a welcomed change, no more medics turning into a squad of 4 :v:), and my reply stands. He literally said that it would be too challenging with the way levels are made and destruction works. You know what people have said about the Battlefield mod tools since 1942? That they were hard to use. So I would like to know who the "average modder" is. Not to mention the very idea of telling people that it would be too difficult for them and to just let the developers make maps and sell them to you for $15 is an insult. Atleast give people the opportunity to keep you game alive far longer than it would have without mod tools.

They already posted a long and indepth explanation why THEY CAN'T release mod tools a long time ago so I'm not going to bother rewriting all that.
"I realize that this video we are talking about misses the point completetly and you are right, but this long and in-depth explanation that I read a long time ago sets everything straight so you are wrong"
In a world were Call of Duty and Crysis 2, both ostensibly console games, have mod tools released, I can't see how DICE can keep up this "Made for PC Gamers!" strategy while having the excuse of "It's too hard :downs:" when it comes to such an important cornerstone of PC gaming.

Are you seriously that fucking incapable of reading or what? It's not that "it's too hard", it's that "IT CAN'T BE DONE". The reasons why they can't release mod tools were all explained in that blog post and they're pretty much this - the only way you can compile anything with the tools they use is if you have access to the entire source code (which regular modders obviously don't), the only way they could even release any part of the code is they'd pay millions of dollars of licensing fees for all the third-party technologies they used in the engine and there's also that your regular modder PC would take probably more than a week just to compile a single map to a state where it could be tested in-game.
Thanks for bothering to rewrite it. As you know, saying that you have a counter-argument somewhere around here instead of just making it is a REALLY stupid strategy to go with if you are proving a point, just FYI.
Also none of that was said in the video, which this topic is about, and to which, coincidentally, my position was made. Did the guy answering questions think gamers were too dumb to understand words like compile and license fees?

I think he just didn't have the time to explain all of it since it would have taken a while to say all of that.

Are you aware how old battlefield 2 is
Apparently it's to do with the sheer amount of middleware they'd have to license and how long it takes to compile maps. I'd be surprised if they didn't want to flog a few map packs too though.
When will devs realize that mod tools keep games alive.
they don't care about that.
If they make mod tools they can forget about paid DLCs.
When will devs realize that mod tools keep games alive.
that's not necessarily a good thing though
When will devs realize that mod tools keep games alive.
Then again you have to realize that Vanilla Battlefield 2 is still being played by quite a bit of people.
Then again you have to realize that Vanilla Battlefield 2 is still being played by quite a bit of people.
That's true, but there's really no good reason to stop supporting mods other than people allowing it to happen. Main reasons are usually DLC followed by being an asshole about your proprietary tools and so on.
BF3 mods could be supported if they made a very simple mission SDK or something for just missions (not talking about maps or models), that'd make most people happy, they won't though because they don't have to do that.
FUCK
WHY
For a game that is advanced and content filled as Battlefield 3, it doesn't, in my opinion, warrant mod tools to be provided. You're already going to be receiving top quality game mechanics, physics, maps, campaign and more. What else is there to even add? User made maps just clutter up the server list anyway, having to wade through servers using custom maps that need to be downloaded is a nuisance, and they're usually low quality 85% of the time.
