I'm looking for a good quality MP3 player that isn't an ipod because iTunes is a pile of shit. Atleast 1gb. Any ideas?
There are alternatives for iTunes, for example, MediaMonkey.
I just don't like the idea of having to "sync". I like to just straight copy and paste.
Well yeah, MediaMonkey does that really.
You should have googled it.
I have an Archos 43IT, it works well for me.
Pros:
-Runs Android 2.2, may get update to Gingerbread in near future
-Large screen (4.3" diagonal) but fits in your pocket
-External speaker that sounds somewhat decent, unlike the iDevice's
-Microphone I haven't tested yet
-Front-facing camera that can record 720p video
-Resistive touch screen (doesn't work well with your fingers)
-16 GB internal storage, can be expanded up to 16 more GB with MicroSDHC card
-Conveniently placed power/volume buttons, unlike iPod Touch (my opinion)
-Bluetooth
-Mini-HDMI TV output
Cons:
-Doesn't come with a stylus (extremely difficult to use without)
-No multitouch (makes a lot of games and emulators completely unplayable)
-Doesn't have software to sync with PC, either mount the internal storage and use drag/drop, or find a generic Android sync solution somewhere else
-Very few accessories, I still can't find a decent leather case that doesn't stick out of my pocket 4 inches
-Default Android web browser sucks (I recommend Dolphin Browser Mini)
-Not very many hardware buttons (a few customizable ones would be nice, it's not like there's anything taking up the sides of the device anyway)
Unfortunately, it's not a phone and Google won't let Archos give it Marketplace access. Instead, there's a crappy replacement called 'AppsLib' that does the same thing but only has 1/100 of the apps.
Fortunately, there's an easy-to-use hack to install the Android Market and allow you to download/purchase most of the apps there.
Overall, I would say I am quite satisfied with my Archos 43 (IT version) and definitely wouldn't go with any other device on the market right now.

You could also get an Archos 70 or Archos 28 if you're looking for a larger or smaller screen size, but I don't recommend it (70 doesn't have a camera or something like that iirc)
Stylus is crap, fingers all the way.
So if you could choose a iPod touch or an Archos 43IT you would go for the Archos 43IT ?
I doubt you ever used it. You can scrap options like mini-HDMI output cause on all the devices I had with an TV-output I used that feature exactly zero times.

If you can affort it you should go for an iPod, most people wich didn't got it regret it.
ITS REALLY OVERPRICED, but it is the best you can get in terms of build quality, performance, device in general (speed and such).
Not trying to be a Apple fanboy here but most of the Apple products are overpriced pieces of shit, but it's really he power of the OS that makes Apple products good.
iPod touch and iPhone are the ultimate device if you seek MP3 and Multimedia.
Otherwise you should go for any android based device wich doesnt use stylus ( I find that crap, though fingernails work too)
