How can i use my ipod to play music through my desktop speakers without having to use the actual computer? theres no usb port on the speakers or the subwoofer, so how would I go about doing this? I don't know the model of my speakers but they're altec lansings, 2 speakers + 1 subwoofer.
Line in
line in is a headphone jack, im not sure how to connect it to my ipod, because the ipod connector has a usb on the other end.
use audio cable plug it into the audio socket in the ipod then plug the audio cable into the blue socket
plug the speakers into your headphone socket
fyi i am using integrated sound, i dont have a dedicated sound card. is that a problem?
Green is output blue is input you don't have a blue socket ?

what cable exactly do i need?
my speakers are plugged in to the pc and work fine if i were to play music from itunes, but where do i go from here?
standard pc audio cable

yeah i have both, my speakers are plugged into the green socket, but what cable do i need to connect my ipod to the blue socket, the white ipod connector uses usb.
go to sound settings then look for line in then right click on that properties then look for listen to this device
plug the audio cable into the ipod headset jack then the blue socket on the back of your pc
i dont think i have one of those...
Go to bestbuy or the like, get an auxiliary audio cable, plug it from the green jack on the speakers to the headphone jack n your ipod.
simple as that.
so the cable should be an open usb port on one side and a headphone jack on the other?
all ipods have a headphone socket
i know that, im just trying to see what cable i need, and whether i can find one around the house.

Take the jack on the speakers and put them into your iPod's headphone socket, that should work.

you need one of these

then you plug one end in there then you plug it into the headphone socket in the ipod
Take the speaker cable out the back of the computer and put it into your iPod.
my way lets you run pc audio and ipod music at the same time
