that's a first. apparently she can deny people health pickups
If you hit an enemy with Ana's grenade, the healing block applies to healthkits too. Sombras kit sounds like it'll be hard to balance. I don't think we needed more regular abilities that can entirely shut down ults.
she'll probably be annoying to play against, but this is like the only character with her entire moveset based around disabling

Which totally fucks everything up in a game where abilities are key
I'm calling it now, the first patch after Sombra's release is going to be toning down how long you're hacked
A 5 second silence on a basic ability is just too damn strong to last. A 2.5 second silence is much more manageable
This character will either be neutered to near-uselessness, or will be a constant annoyance like Mei.
Having someone else basically slapping the controller out of your hands is not fun.
Would they be better off just completely removing her? From what I understood it doesn't seem like such a big loss, I honestly would rather have them focus on the current roster.

Lmfao WHAT????
Yeah, sure, infuriating to play against, it was SO OBVIOUS she was OP it's crazy. She seems to do WAY more damage than tracer at close range, the damage seems to be higher on long distance making the large spread kind of useless because the damage makes up for it, she got an invis every 5 seconds where she is faster and better with no animation to activate it or desactivate it so it's an instant invis unlike the spy in TF2, she got a teleporation device which gives her a free out of jail card better than reaper aaaaaand she can hack and remove abilitie from player for 30 sec and remove health kit for 30 second with no limits on how much health kit can be hacked, along with an absolutely OP passive that enable her to see low health enemys.
plus she's the new genji, every 12 year old will "main" her and she is going to be the only class the player are going to play for some weeks.
Lmfao WHAT????
I don't know, I was just asking. The article makes her sound horrible or something like that. I haven't tried her.
Has Blizzard even made an FPS before!?
At least she is going to PTR first. With luck Blizzard will tune her there first. Hopefully.
Yeah, sure, infuriating to play against, it was SO OBVIOUS she was OP it's crazy.
The reality is that Sombra isn't known to be OP yet, sure her abilities are a pretty big deal but we cannot tell yet purely because she has not been put to the test. The people playing against Sombra never have before and haven't learnt how to effectively play against her or learnt her movements and strategies yet.
Winston will do very well against Sombra since Winston can break her invis, disrupt her silence and leap after her if she teleports away. We've already got a very obvious hard counter. Roadhog will work well too, since his hook landing comes out far faster than her silence. Her silence can also not go through Rein's shield. Soldier's constant fire will disrupt her silence and just one shot is needed to to disrupt her invis.
She seems to do WAY more damage than tracer at close range, the damage seems to be higher on long distance making the large spread kind of useless because the damage makes up for it
Sombra does not do more damage than Tracer at close range, the demo footage is just showing people who can aim better than your average Tracer. The damage will not make up for spread and in reality at range her weapon will only be effective against tanks.
she got an invis every 5 seconds where she is faster and better with no animation to activate it or *deactivate it so it's an instant invis unlike the spy in TF2
Her invisibility has a 6 second cooldown but she can be seen and heard during the first second AND if she goes too close to player she can be seen too. Plus the ability lasts 6 seconds meaning it won't be effective for actual stealth and will function more like Reaper's Shadow Step or Tracer's Blink. It's also cancelled if you make contact with a player or take any damage, so splash damage, Winston's M1 and rapid fire in predicted areas will be very difficult for Sombra. She'll never go invisible in a way where you won't be able to tell quite obviously where she is and what she's planning. Overwatch's map design is very linear and she only has 6 seconds to work with.
she got a *teleportation device which gives her a free out of jail card better than reaper
Much like Tracer's recall savvy players can tell exactly where her device is and where she'll end up, plus she'll be in the same condition as before teleporting, so likely low health and needing to reload. PLUS it lasts for 15 seconds so it could be unusable if she leaves it too long.
she can hack and remove *abilities from player for 30 sec and remove health kit for 30 second with no limits on how much health kit can be hacked
Untrue, the health kit hack lasts for 60 seconds. But the player hack lasts for 6 seconds, and it has to be channeled for 3 seconds, if Sombra takes any damage during those 3 seconds the hack is cancelled.
I really think people are overplaying the powerfulness of her invisibility, her hack also has short range and needs to be channeled without taking damage which is quite difficult. The only thing I'm worried about is her EMP, which is actually probably positive because it will hopefully trigger a move away from the ult meta.
-stuff-
This is all coming from the guy who, within 10 posts, went from "weakest character ever totally useless lol" to "most op thing ever to hit overwatch nerf hew now jesus christ".
And she isn't even in the game yet.
Has Blizzard even made an FPS before!?
No, which is why a good deal of the characters have MOBA-like and RTS-like slowdown, guaranteed methods of totally removing movement and control from their victim or area-of-effect gimmicks in a genre meant to be fast-paced, and in regards to the former two it's extremely jarring from any other FPS, even one of it's main inspirations, TF2, whereas they're more reasonable in those two genres because they're slower and more chess-like.
If you've played TF2, the best analogy for how Sombra plays in particular is imagine if you could sap healthpacks, had a ranged hitscan facestabbing knife that didn't kill and instead acted like a moonshot sandman stun that still allowed you to fire in place and combined that with a Sniper SMG that granted headshot crits, all on a character who has an Invisibility Watch with effectively infinite ammo unless you luck out and the ability to teleport and stop the equivalent of an invuln uber push with a timed metered attack.
Her design, while not directly similar, is comparable in a sense to Reaper, Zarya and Mei where they have interesting ideas executed in a way that is horrifyingly poorly-thought-out for peer-to-peer matchups and usually unfun to be an opponent fighting against them, as they can get a lot out of their really low skill floors and, in the case of Reaper and Zarya, dispropotionate utility (which is why Reaper and Zarya are two of the most used classes in comp.).
You know how bastion as the most hated hero in OW for a while after release?
People screaming how OP he is etc. then people learned how to adjust and he barely used anymore because he can be easily taken out in most situations.
(Thats why he is now a pretty situational hero.)
This article is based on a couple of people who barely played as her and against her.
People will figure out how to counter her as much as people will find out how to play her more effective.
Judging any balance just based on the info we have is pretty useless.
Just as an example, her stealth will probably be broken a lot by random bullets or like Winston.
Things like hacking also needs be channeled.
But the true sin of Sombra is that she's excruciatingly fun to play. Her Translocator ability can be thrown incredibly far, letting me pop-up behind the enemy team and create a big distraction. It is simply one of the most satisfying abilities in Overwatch. Her stealth grants a speed boost that made me feel like an invisible go-cart, lasting for about six seconds and with only a six second cooldown after it ends. I thought damage would be her downfall, but Sombra's gun packs a punch and has a deep magazine. I barely ever worried about reloading. She's speedy, powerful, and has a skillcap for movement and trickery that reaches straight into the clouds.
Is it just me or does she sound like a slightly better Reaper? I already love playing Reaper, so I'm probably going to love playing Sombra :excited:
Don't really get what Blizzard's deal is with skills that freeze or disable a character. It's very annoying for the victim. Valve mostly avoided introducing something like that in TF2, and ended up heavily nerfing places it did (scout baseball).
Also, please note that the blizzcon build is an older build according to a dev.

because i watched the stream of it and, as a Pharah player mainly, i think she is OP against too much character but she is garbage against pharah which will effectively negate her hacking by being in the air, the splash damage of her rocket (the radius is too low in my opinion, they should buff it a bit because it seems like Pharah rocket is the Direct Hit from TF2), and, well, she has no real ability to hack because pharah ability already got a long ass cooldown.
