Planning to sell my PS3 with this thought. Should I do it?
Not for a while so no
Not in the next 2-3 years.
Maybe in like 3 or 4 years.
3 days after videos of shitloads of people booting into Linux on the PS3 start showing up.
I heard some rumors, its coming out maybe around at 2014-2017
3-4 years. There are still some good games coming out so why sell it.
2019
A new one "usually" comes out every 11th year or so. So I think: 2017-2021

I think it will be slightly sooner, maybe 2015-2019
Next week.
Sell your PS3 now.
The PS3 has plenty of tricks left in it's cell processors, it can go for about 3-4 more years if games advance at the same rate they have been.

Wtf really? Can you post a source? Prove me wrong, but I highly doubt Microsoft would end such a successful line of products.
Considering Microsoft has said the Xbox line is stopping with the Kinect, and Nintendo hasn't said a peep about a new console - I think the console wars are starting to slow down.
This is total BS. MS actually said they want to continue the Xbox until around 2015. So I'd expect to see new stuff popping up around that time.
Also, didn't Nintendo announce they're going to be showing off a Wii 2 this year? I can't remember where the source was.
Ubisoft said they predict around 2012 iir
If they want to stay up to date with the current hardwares, they should make a new one in -2 years.
Nintendo hasn't said a peep about a new console
Nintendo is always like that, keeping all their incoming stuff in secret as much as possible (in order to build more hype). They'll most likely say something on the next E3
About the PS4, they'll most likely announce the PSP2 (or it's equivalent, and no, the Playstation Phone doesn't count) first, so the PS3 has at least 2 more years until they eventually announce the PS4
Out. Out, get out. Enjoy no games
The next console is going to have touch screen :3:
Who needs controllers if you can just touch your fucking screen and stand 5 cm from your television?

You happy now? Keep in mind some of these articles are a bit old (they still refer to the Kinect as Natal) but it still stands.
They would instantly if Sony did...
Microsoft have stopped the Xbox line?
Listen closely everybody, if you try real hard you can hear the sound of thousands of PS3 owners masturbating in unision
I would love a single console, but PC gaming is better anyway.

They'll most likely launch their new console under other name, instead of calling it "Xbox 720" or something. It's like when the GameBoy series ended in the GameBoy Micro, then the new portable console series of Nintendo were the DSs

What would be the point of a touchscreen if you can already control your games by waving your body around?
Generations of console gamers have fucking huge and muscular thumbs, but besides that are fat and lazy.
I that's the point.

PS1 - 1994
PS2 - 2000
PS3 - 2007
Looking at the release dates of these consoles, perhaps a 2013/2014 release?
Comes out tomorrow.
Sony's going to have a hard time making a PS4 any time soon. Here's why:
Game companies typically sell consoles to stores at a loss and then make up the difference with the games. Turning a profit on the consoles is usually impossible unless you use cheap hardware (if I remember right the Wii breaks even). The loss is usually about 20-30% of the console package price, around $50 USD on average. However, because the PS3 used such expensive hardware, they were losing (at launch) around $300 USD per console sold. Incidentally, PS3 games are sold at a higher price than 360 or Wii to offset this margin of loss.
Therefore, Sony over-extending itself on the PS3 hardware had two unfortunate effects on the PS4:
1. Due to the above, the PS3 made no significant profit (it did slightly better than breaking even). It's not like Sony is going to crash and burn or that the PS3 was some kind of market failure, but it's usually easier to release a new console when you're funding it with the profits of the previous model.
2. The PS4 would have to beat the PS3's power by a significant margin, meaning better hardware and more expensive parts. Arguably, Sony could end up in an even WORSE situation if they have to over-extend themselves on the hardware even further.
That being said, Sony is much better off releasing another PSP. Nintendo's gambling with the 3D gimmick, and a down-to-earth PSP2 may capture more of the market.
