How the hell does WoW still look so good despite being like 9 years old
How the hell does WoW still look so good despite being like 9 years old
It's all about the art style.
Watching a Mogu'shan run last night made me wish I had bought MoP instead of GW2.
It's all about the art style.
Well, they also keep updating models and textures.
Well, they also keep updating models and textures.
didn't they release new character models or something
While I dislike WoW's mechanics (thanks for that, GW2), I still have nostalgiaries for the world/setting/characters. It's hard to forget the second MMO you've ever really played (first was Runescape. THAT'S easy to forget.)
didn't they release new character models or something
It's an old example, but still valid. They also have DirectX 11 now, so you can't really consider it a 9 year old game in terms of graphics.
How the hell does WoW still look so good despite being like 9 years old
I think it looks terrible.
I think it looks terrible.
It's about as good you can make an MMO look without melting your computer. Look at rift, it was pretty as hell, but if you had more than 2 NPCs fighting on screen your framerate would drop into the negatives.
It's an old example, but still valid. They were planning new, better faces for the original races but for some reason they got scrapped, there's still some NPCs on some of the ships to the WoTLK starting areas that still use them though. It's been years since I've played WoW though, so I don't know if anything regarding it has changed since then.
It's been years since I've played WoW though, so I don't know if anything regarding it has changed since then.
Oh, I didn't know that. I haven't played in a while either, this was just the first example that popped into my mind.
I think they are planning to release updated character models to bring the older ones up to the more modern spec, but it's not done yet so you'll have to wait.
I think it looks terrible.
It doesn't push polygons as hard as newer games but the artstyle is really smooth and easy on the eyes. The Warcraft 3/WoW look was a stroke of genius on Blizzards part. Also they are working on updated character models but very slowly.
doing this atm, it's really fun

GW2 combat is faster and flows really well but the skill limits are really restrictive, especially coming from someone who played a WoW druid for several years.

And while the world itself is smaller, the individual zones are a lot more expansive which I think is more important. No matter how many you have, when the "zones" are really small I never feel like I'm in one big world. I liked GW1 better where you only had 8 slots but you had a ton of choices for each.
GW2 and WoW both have things they can learn from each other I really liked how melee worked in GW2 but the overall diversity of spells was much appreciated from WoW - GW2's 5 weapon abilities made combat feel moderately dull I still find myself trying to roll in WoW though :v:

I played a Mesmer/Necromancer and so I had an absolute shitton of spells to pick from, but about 90% of them were the most mundane spells ever, with some spells even doing the exact same things as eachother. It's boring when your skill list consist of "Deal damage, deal damage, drain mana, drain mana AND deal damage, interrupt, drain mana, deal damage." I'm playing guardian, a flat out fuckin tank for christ sake and I have more interesting spells than the spellcasters of guild wars 1 ever had. Guild Wars 2's spell system is fun to me not for giving me a shit ton of spells, but giving me a handful of versatile ones.

I use about 90% of my feral druid abilities in arena/BGs.
I use about 90% of my feral druid abilities in arena/BGs.
On my priest I use basically the whole Shadow routine. Standard PvE grinding is usually mind blast into mind flay with the occasional Devouring Plague but in PvP/dungeons/whatever I use the full combo seeing as like Vampiric Touch is mana generation, void tendrils is CC...
It's an old example, but still valid.
I use about 90% of my feral druid abilities in arena/BGs.
Pretty much every class uses all spells in PvP if you want to be good, as a warrior because of stances and shields I can end up using all my spells.
GW2 and WoW both have things they can learn from each other I really liked how melee worked in GW2 but the overall diversity of spells was much appreciated from WoW - GW2's 5 weapon abilities made combat feel moderately dull I still find myself trying to roll in WoW though :v:
10 skills counting weapon swap (not including function skills) 20 as an elementalist Necromancer has access to 15 Engineer can have access to 24 I do somewhat agree though, would be nice to have access to more skills. Guild Wars does have more of an action feel to it though in my opinion, PvP and PvE, not like you can just sit at the back while someone tanks/heals.
I felt the opposite, I hated GW2 because none of the spells or attacks were interesting, was all just boon this, condition that, and then I realized how much I love WoWs combat, all the spells just look amazing and feel really unique from one another.
In GW2 it depends on what class and weapon you're using. Like with a ranger for example, a shortbow is mostly quick condition damage, whereas a longbow or greatsword have more interesting, direct effects.

It was seriously all boon/conditions which were not interesting, the stats were not interesting, the combat was very boring, the dodging was gimmicky and it was just a spam fest.

This game has pretty much spoiled other MMO combat for me. I even find myself double tapping the direction keys to dodge in completely different games.
