I mean at least it's something but I don't like the idea of this being an "exclusive" year-round usable item. I can see this getting old real quick.

Yeah maybe, but most of the time I just avoid going to any website for the day cause I know there's going to be some stupid April Fools joke everywhere I go.
Like if I like a games website, I will avoid it like the plague cause I know the main news article is going to be another dumb fake announcement.
It was funny like, five years ago but it has easily worn down since then.

Some things are still funny, but it's generally either really big changes to websites that let you appreciate the work that's gone into it, or something really self deprecating that everyone involved can laugh at.
Dumb stories work better for newspapers, plus it lets them print a load of silly articles and let readers guess which is the real one.
