Something that freaks me out quite a bit the idea of dying. My family is religious (not overly so), so I've always been brought up good (not insisting you need religion to be brought up good), but my pessimistic side gets the better of me sometimes and I think about the possibility of non-existence after death. Anyone else ever get a bit freaked out about it? The idea of never ever being alive/conscious again, not being able to experience things etc etc. I know you wouldn't be aware of my non-existence, but still - I dunno, the idea that one day I'll be gone scares me at times.
I don't see it as a bad thing, it doesn't have any effect on how I live life - just gets me a bit worried on some late nights. I see it as a sign that I really do love life.
What are your views?
Please don't turn this into a religious flame thread or whatever, everyone is entitled to their own faiths and beliefs - don't try and disprove or talk down on the religious/non-religious.
It happens.
Nobody wants to die, but that isn't our decision.
Everybody dies. The most important thing to do is outlive your enemies so you can piss on their grave
Thats why we need to die epicly!
Remember what it was like before you were born?
Exactly.
aint no sense trying to stop it, its gonna happen.
everyone you know some day will die
and instead of saying
aLL OF YOUR GOODBYES
LET THEM KNOW YOU REALIZE THAT LIFE GOES FAST
ITS HARD TO MAKE THE GOOD THINGS LAST
ETC
(thats a flaming lips song for those who dont seem to understand)
I feel pretty good about it.
Not another one of these threads.
inb4 the oh so clever "ITS LIKE BEING BEFORE BORN BUT AFTER"
How do you know you have died?
So there is no need to worry. When you die, if religions are wrong, than your mind has nowhere to go, so how do you know your dead?
One day you realize you've been pissing in a sea of piss. That's how it feels.

Umm...
I was being serious when I told my family I want a viking burial.
I don't think they realised...
I think we all :ghost:
My point is if its your time then its your time and there is nothing you can do about it
I'm scared of death and anyone saying that they aren't is a liar.
The biggest fear known to man is "fear of the unknown". Not having certainty is man's biggest weakness. Death is what people want to believe it is.
In all honesty though, how can you really fear something you have absolutely no control over? I used to worry about it as a kid, but you can just accept it and understand it's a process of life, and that you're not alone because everyone is headed there.
I CHANGED IT FROM THE FAMILY GUY QUOTE
"When we fall asleep, we could die!"
"Kids, thats how I feel every night."
"Whatever grandpa!"
How does having a religious family mean you automatically were brought up good?

The Way of the Samurai is found in death. Meditation on inevitable death should be performed daily. Every day, when one's body and mind are at peace, one should meditate upon being ripped apart by arrows, rifles, spears, and swords, being carried away by surging waves, being thrown into the midst of a great fire, being struck by lightning, being shaken to death by a great earthquake, falling from thousand-foot cliffs, dying of disease or committing seppuku at the death of one's master. And every day, without fail, one should consider himself as dead. This is the substance of the Way of the Samurai.
That is how I feel about death.
And no, I'm not freaked out at the idea that there is nothing after I die.

Most Muslims are brought up good. Oh and before you say "then why do they bomb places" - remember a Muslim and an Islamist are 2 different things.

My grandfather died in his sleep you piss bucket.
[SP]Just kidding, but I hope it made you feel bad.[/SP]
And I do believe we all become ghosts.
I faced death a couple of years ago. When I think about it now. It wasn't as terrifying as people make it out to be.
It was rather peaceful.
However, I didn't see white light or pearly gates.
What i did see, well more Felt was, a unbelievable amount of peace and tranquility.
I could go into huge detail. But all I will say is, Death is whatever you want it to be.
The shit thing about the game of life is No one ever wins its always Game over at the end,But the after life (Y)

I'm not an idiot.
I'm asking to whether you were insisting non-religious families are incompetent.
Whenever I think about what will happen when I die, and if there is no afterlife, how does it feel? It doesn't, I can't get that through my head. Then when thinking about it I get a horrible feeling.

Go into detail, you got me interested.
I'm a Christian, but sometimes, I'm not really sure what I think will happen when I die.
Thinking too much about it gives me a horrible feeling in my stomach. I try not to think about it.

No, not at all.
