So my dad has a virus on his computer and AVG free failed to detected it.
Is there any program i can use to scan for the virus and remove it from a flash drive?
The virus prevents him from using an internet browser and it constantly flashes these security alerts that he has a virus and needs to XP Security something to fix it.
Any suggestion on how to fix this besides wiping the drive (since all he needs really is a browser and the software to connect to work)?

The best thing I can think of is BART which is avast's CD, but you have to pay for it, amazing stuff. You can also put the drive as a slave for another computer and fix it from there.

(Download onto a USB pen and run it from his PC that way)

Also I've heard ClamWin is an excellent portable antivirus, although I've personally never gotten the chance to use it.
