Don't really know, I just randomly find music on the internet.
I like that the music I listen to usually has a meaning behind the lyrics; something you can reflect on, and think about.
Also because my mum and stepdad love metal so I love it too!
But I like alternative music, something I found out on my own and I don't remember why. Bands like Rise Against and 30Seconds to Mars.
I really dunno, I've listened to punk rock since i was like 6, cuz I found my brothers offspring-cds all over the place
i had long hair for awhile, for no apparent reason

then i met this kid, who too had long hair
and we became friends
then i found out he was a "METALHEAD"
so i began listening to metal
and yea
I don't follow genres, I follow artists. Liking music because it typefies a genre isn't a particularily good reason for liking it ;)
metal and all the stuff derived from rock towards the direction of metal, but only say 20 years back (or stuff that sounds similar to stuff that young).... that wasn't too clearly put, but frankly I don't know what exactly I mean, I just know it when I hear it.
for several reasons, the most important of which being maybe this feeling of my ears being "full" of sound when there's a right sort of bass track, drums and a good melody that sounds smooth and makes you wanna do something cool and violent :P. Not too concentrated on lyrics, but good lyrics often prolong the life of a song in my mental favorites list.
I listen to gabber (on youtube, lol) and trance (just the prodigy), too, and as you can see that above only covered a part of what I explained in the first paragraph, but that's the core of it in my opinion.
Little old me, at the age of maybe 7? I don't know, wanted to listen to music, as I hadn't before, I hated the radio (BEFORE I KNEW IT WAS COOL BRAH!) music, so I turned to my brother.
He gave me Metallica's Self-Titled album and some Iron Maiden, from Metallica I reached Megadeth. As much as I would've loved to discuss it with people, no one I know likes Megadeth or Iron Maiden, and a few people only recently picked up Metallica due to Guitar Hero.
A while back my brother dropped his entire music collection onto my PC, after some browsing I hit Rush, and I love that.

My dad introduced me to The Prodigy, then Rage Against the Machine. Then i met people online and now i like things like Bring Me The Horizon, Pendulum, Skindred, Hollywood Undead

I like Rock because I grew up with my dad having tons of rock cd's.
My brother had Disturbed's "Droppin' Plates", "Down With the Sickness" and the video for "Prayer" on his computer a while ago. I guess that started my love of metal.
I heard slam.. now i love pendulum.. but no other bands in this genre just pendulum
when i was like 6, my brothers and all their friends would listen to blink-182 so the first song i really remember from my childhood is "All The Small Things"
about 3 years ago i buy a game "shadow the hedgehog" and i like the opening song and i started to like rock
I bought Master of Puppets. I'm not quite sure cause why because I was young, but I did.
Well, i like trance because it has a lot of beat and (rhythme)?? Spelling?? And it allows me to just sink and let my mind wander through the vast space as i listen to (to me) heart warming beats.
it all started when i lost all my friends because i was bullied by the same gent. for 5 years. In grade 8 i let out a tear one day, and all my friends bailed on me. Girls though i was a pussy so i couldnt take it anymore and now. I just let my mind drift and not think about my life.

aww shit. Well theres my life story. Sorry didnt mean to do that. But that is why i listen to trance. Its my LSD, but without the drug.
I like music that doesn't suck, basically, so I just listen to the music that doesn't suck and don't listen to music that sucks, it's really easy.
Introduced to Bruce Springsteen at a young age.
