Yeah, they stopped updating it 3 year ago but they revealed that they were infact working on a new version (2 year ago) the famous 2.0, the comeback of the terraria development team (without their leader, busy making overworld). Since then they've updated the game pretty often with huge content pack.. for free.

Red only stopped it because he had a kid to take care of, or something, he decided to resume it later because he didn't want the game to be unfinished.

Man I have so much respect for these guys. Who would have thought I'd get almost 200 hours of fun out of what I thought was a 2d minecraft rip off.

It suffers from Fallout: New Vegas syndrome, where there's so many sidequests and so much shit to do I've only finished the game like once out of my hundred playthroughs.

Except in this case I've never finished it and I doubt I ever will
