So , this week my dog bited one of these cute little baby's and i discovered that one of them fell from my house's borderwall and have now a possible broken spine ( concluding that he can't move his back legs) and his mother is gone for good , it's been 5 days since it all happened , i've been feeding him some fruits and leaves becouse i searched it on google and they mostly eat this Some pics for experts on hedgehogs [thumb]http://puu.sh/c6RTA/88bfc15525.jpg[/thumb] [thumb]http://puu.sh/c6RSl/0bc217b278.jpg[/thumb] He flipped backwards somehow :) [thumb]http://puu.sh/c6RTA/88bfc15525.jpg[/thumb] Any help would be great , need to know how the work basicly
Euthanasia by a vet would be the most humane option. It's a sad truth. Poor little guy.
[QUOTE=BlueChihuahua;46199637]Euthanasia by a vet would be the most humane option. It's a sad truth. Poor little guy.[/QUOTE] he doesn't seem to feel any pain at all , no screaming , nothing , he can still move with his front paws pretty quickly , i'll see what i can do
I don't really have any solid advice to give, my apologies, but how far is the little guy able to go with his front legs? Does his back legs drag behind him? He's a cute thing, I hope someone will help you out here.
I'm concerned mainly about his level of comfort. Besides mobility, the problem with a broken spine is the muscles will severely atrophy. If he's able to move around freely with his front legs, you could keep a close eye on his condition. If he genuinely seems content, you could keep him as a pet. But if he becomes sluggish, develops sores, or stops feeding take him to a vet immediately.
He's moving freely , he can even grab with his front paws so it's only the back legs mobility that has been lost , he seems to like the fruits i gave him too , so it's a good thing that he's eating

He looks like a porcupine to me and is apparently an herbivore. I don't believe hedgehogs live in the Americas; they're also insectivores. If he's a porcupine, you can research specific needs for his species.
[thumb]http://www.bearriverranch.com/Animals/images/Prehensile_Tail_Porcupine2.JPG[/thumb] Look's like he's from the porpucine family as you said , his mother spikes were yellow and black , just like the prehensile tail porpucine [editline]10th October 2014[/editline] Turn's out that he is mostly night active so he is sleeping now :) [thumb]http://puu.sh/c6U0W/cff068473a.jpg[/thumb]
he's so adorable :3 I would take him to the vet for at least a checkup. There are a lot of stories about people trying to take care of injured animals themselves only to have them die later because of complications, it would just be best to know whether or not extra steps need to be taken to make sure he doesn't die.
Echoing a bit what Schmaaa said, but taking it to the vet would be a good idea! Perhaps they could provide a formula if the baby is REALLY young. But hopefully he isn't! Pulled this from an article: [QUOTE]The length of time a baby porcupine nurses varies by species, but most require Mom's milk for between one and three weeks. Some species nurse for more than three months, including the North American porcupine. Regardless of how long the babies nurse, they're able to start incorporating solid food in the first or second week of life to supplement the milk. Many can survive on their own after about 3 weeks of age even if they're separated from their mothers.[/QUOTE]
Yeah , i'm going to take him to a vet , i am really thinking on keeping him as a pet what could go wrong :v:
[QUOTE=MasterAenox;46201746]Yeah , i'm going to take him to a vet , i am really thinking on keeping him as a pet what could go wrong :v:[/QUOTE] Honestly, I'd wanna keep him too. I've heard they can be really cute pets! Good luck with everything, keep us posted.
[thumb]http://puu.sh/c7nEX/b4e800471f.jpg[/thumb] Well , I Think he likes to be rolled up in a shirt hehe i was seriously thinking about putting him down on the vet , but i don't have the courage to do this , the main reason is becouse i think that he is suffering , even tho he does not show any signals of pain
After 2 Days of feeding , petting , making him cozy , he passed away now , i was holding him a couple of minutes before he died... Rest in peace cute friend [sp]Fuck man , im crying like hell at the moment , yet felling good that he is gone now , his life would be horrible becouse of the movement loss of back legs and tail , well , at least he is in peace now [/sp]

[QUOTE=ChronoBlade;46213656]I'm sorry to ask, but how did he die?[/QUOTE] He started to have serious respiration issues and eventually stopped breathing
Now I'm sad.
Awww, jesus I'm really sorry about that. :c Just know this, he wouldn't have lasted long out in the wild like that anyways and when he would be eventually found his death probably would've been so brutal (assuming a predator would find him). This way, he wasn't alone or scared in his death and could die in a quiet place where he was being taken care of. Sorry for your loss again.
