That's because it was.

Well, looks like they're not gonna go back to a more balanced combination of seriousness and crazy. Nope, we're just gonna go full-on tryhard "so randum!!!"
It looks just as terrible as the third.
Got excited when I saw the article, after watching the trailer I'm not excited, at all. Saints Row 3 was fun, sure, especially with a buddy but it seems they decided to just crank the "RANDOM FUNNY SHIT LOL" meter to the max for this.
I'm sure there'll be people who will find it a fun game but I'm definitely not one of them.
2 was definitely best.
Seems like they're going the Saints Row 2 route of taking the previous game, keeping a lot of the content from it and simply expanding on it and adding a ton of new stuff.

Content-wise, sure. Gameplay and visuals wise, no way.
I don't really care about it looking the same as SR3 because to me, graphics aren't everything, I mainly worry about if it is going to work on my PC. And since it looks the same as SR3, it'll be fine so I can't wait to buy SR4.
What's wrong with it being all random? This is like multiple games combined.
There are quite a few games that are serious so I don't see the need to make yet another one. Sure, there is some stuff that I don't like about SR3/4, but I at least I have a choice with so much content.
Clowning around: The Game!
Personally I love how absurd Saints Row 3 was.
Besides, we'll have GTA5 not long after SR4, so it's not like you will have to wait much if you don't like SR4

There's a difference between something mildly silly like Serious Sam, and then just going full retard yelling "OMGZ LOLZ HITTING OLD LAIDES WITH DILDOS XDXDXDXF"

because it gets old real fast. And so much content? SR3 barely had any content. Like, a 1/3 of what SR2 had. There's a reason I keep going to replay SR2 but barely touch SR3 anymore.

Oh yeah, GTA V comes out a month after.
Played SR3 coop with a friend, we had some laughs, enjoyed it for a couple hours. But after those hours the humor starts going stale and the game gets really boring, the story is meh and all the characters are really boring(especially for me who never played any other SR game and got no idea who these people are)

Having played SR3 for 45 hours, 27 of which I believe were from the story I disagree that it hadn't any content, getting that many hours out of a game is really good, I don't believe that just because its a sandbox-style game it should be able to give hundreds of hours of content, because what that usualy means is that you just got a shitton of boring things you can do over and over and over again that doesn't really serve any purpose but squeezing the amount of time you'll play the game.
I do agree that the end-game content is very scarce, like, when you finish the storyline there is really nothing else to do, and that sucks, multiplayer is fun for a few hours but then you need a big break before playing some more. But whilst that sucks, I couldn't ever say it was a bad thing, because it did have a long ass storyline that delivered tons of fun and a multiplayer experience that can deliver insane amounts of laughs.
I prefer that the hours I play a game are really good from start to finish even if that means it'll be short, rather than having this long ass game that only has it's moments that keeps you playing even if it generally isn't all that fun to play.
But of course, if the story-mode wasn't to peoples taste then SR3 is nothing but a boring try-hard game.
I don't care if it's not like SR2 (even if that game was amazing), I enjoyed the fuck out of SR3 and I'll enjoy the fuck out of SR4.
So they're essentially doing what they did to SR2 by taking the previous game's engine, city, and graphics and making a sequel to it.
So why exactly all the butthurt?

Exactly. Beating people to death with a dildo bat while stark naked and also a robot? How many games provide a similar experience?

About as many that let you throw yourself mercilessly into traffic whilst defying gravity and practically every rule of physics, in order to make money.

Is that Sean Penn with the M60?
I don't really care how the theme to SR3 was, I'm fine with the silliness. But there's still a lot to improve on. I don't want side missions disguised as story missions or missions that have you drive across the map just to get a cutscene.
Also, I miss SR2's way of letting you fight against each gang at your own pace.
Plus steelport is super boring.
So I take it that they're going with the Nation-State ending from that poster above.
With the engine and city already made, I'm expecting a lot more content than the third
And considering how much fun the third was, I'd say this is a must-buy for me
SR's trademark "so random XD" theme never really clicked for me.
While it's nice to see a game that distances itself from the mass of games that attempt (and frequently fail) to be serious and gritty, SR's lack of clear structure had me bored for a while. For me, messing around is fun when it means going off the script. However when the game outright expects you to entertain yourself by messing around and actively rewards you for it, it loses its charm quickly in my book.
Guys, it isn't in steelport. It is simulated.
In the next open-world installment of Saints Row, Deep Silver Volition continues the story of the Third Street Saints by elevating their status to the highest level – the leaders of the free world. In Saints Row IV, the head honcho of the Saints has been elected to the Presidency of the United States. But the Saints are just getting started. Now the larger-than-life insanity of the Saints series gets a new twist with a catastrophic alien invasion, and the aliens have transported the Saints to a bizarro-Steelport simulation. Wield gargantuan superpowers and fight to free humanity from alien granddaddy Zinyak's mental grasp. Escape the simulation that's trapped the Saints crew, or die trying.
Saints Row IV lets players delve into an arsenal of alien weaponry and technology that will turn each Saint into an ultimate entity of destruction. Utilize out-of-this-world superpowers to fight all the way to the top. With intensified action and enhanced customization, players can use their newfound superpowers and leap over buildings, outrun the fastest sports cars, or send enemies flying with telekinesis in the greatest, most insane installment of Saints Row yet.
Save the world, Saints Style.
