The obvious choice is:
SHOVELWARE FOR EVERYONE!
Am I the only one who doesn't mind franchises as long as they're consistently good, such as Nintendo's franchises?
And for the love of god, stop going on about the underpowered Wii. You've had seven fucking years to go on about it, so shut up for once.

Hey, its not my fault devs and gamers prefer more powerful consoles to develop games and play (respectively).
If the Wii had better hardware, it would have alot more people playing it. If it had better hardware, it would also have more devs making games that appeal to more people, therefor better and more titles other than mario and pokemon.
Theres a reason why the Wii is in the gutter, just don't defend its elements saying its not their fault, when it clearly is.
Isn't the Wii for 3 year olds and old farts?

Huh nope?
MS's Xbox360 and Sony's PS3 is going strong due to the ammount and quality of games it has. Its also of mention the online mode against other players, which nowadays is a MUST HAVE in every game, along with a multiplayer that people enjoy. Things which the Wii has none.
Wii titles seem directioned at pre-teens IMO, and the ones that aren't are hardly memorable, leaving the other consoles with a wider choice of games for everyone along with a much better quality.

This.
It isn't, but Nintendo turned it into something like that.

I'm not defending it. The Wii should have been more powerful, and that's part of the reason why it got so much shovelware. If the Wii stood up to the other consoles, we could have had some interesting results.
I was just tired of people repeatedly using the same argument to bash it over and over, when it's been dead for years now. It's still a valid point, but everyone knows it by now.
And the other thing was that every company uses franchises to make money. Nintendo is just lucky enough to make most of the entries keep their quality. Third party however is not quite so great.

Actually, Nintendo does a great job of keeping their characters alive while making great games. While I don't care about the Wii U, the 3DS is a great handheld, and is constantly being improved through frequent updates. Consoles are generate a profit by themselves, so this new console bringing profits down is not surprising.

Hence why I used the same argument. Everyone knows about it, except for Nintendo, which keeps using the same business strategies and then cries about it.
Even though Mario has quality, its overdone to hell and back. They don't even need new franchises, they just need to have a console as good as the others to pull in more people, but by now, they can't save it.

The 3DS is good, but the rest isn't, and the choice of games is tiring.
Need QUALITY games for APPROPRIATE prices.
They still have $10 Billion Dollars and even more than that in assets. Nintendo aren't going anywhere anytime soon and if you think so then you should go away. A lot of this loss probably comes from R&D with the launch of the Wii U coming up towards the end of this year, as well as recovering from the 3DS R&D, as well as selling it below the production cost (for now anyway). Also the Yen suddenly became stronger so that messed stuff up a bit again.
This year I imagine they will see a profit again.
