Holy shit this would be the perfect game for it. 3D, asteroids to mine, space stations, fully constructible and destructible.. All it is missing is syndicates, jobs, aliums, and clowns.

That looks like it took forever to build just that small ship though. It looks like an awesome idea in theory though, guess we'll see how it turns out.

Yeah, this would be the perfect engine for it. But then again, simulating all the shit SS13 does with all of the other shit this game and its engine does would probably bring even the mightiest computer to its knees. Won't be as terrible as Byond's innate shittiness though.

on the surface, ss13 seems like it would be quite resource intensive in 3D, and once you start incorporating all of the reactions between different things, the chemistry system, atmospherics, medicine, power simulation, and absolutely everything else, you've got yourself something that would run at 1 fps on a rig with all of the latest and greatest parts, and 5 seconds per frame on anything else

even in byond, detonating 5 bombs at once causes one tick to take several seconds (and more can be minutes between ticks), although that may just be byond being an absolute piece of shit

i'd have a ship which has a lengthy tube hardened at the tip with strong armour and some explosives
sneak up behind a larger ship, ram into it from behind puncturing into its hull, then detonate its explosive load all up inside of it, then you can waltz down into the recently breached and cleared room via the tube

Putting explosives on the hull of your own ship might not be the best idea. You ram would probably break off severing the connection you had with the ship you tried to board.

What is interesting to me is multiple sizes of blocks. The ship in the start has far smaller bits than the ship at the end.

I think the fear of prebuilt frames instead of custom building isn't really something to worry about, the game makes note of mining for materials and I think it'd be a bit defunct if it just gave you a base objective of "move mats from this rock to the frame sitting next to it for the next hour". Maybe there's set blueprints to follow for specific items, but I doubt (by the 1.0 release build at least) there'd just be a collection of prefab skeletons drifting conveniently around waiting to be welded at
