• Wanting to upgrade graphics card

So Ive had this computer for 4 years now, with no real upgrades besides adding 2 gb of ram. But what I really want to know is, I have a 6150se graphics card(shit I know) which can play half life 2 on med settings. I mean its frame rates per second is very low, but its playable. So I really don't want to spend much, and I was wondering how well do the 8800 gtx work out on newer aged games like FEAR 2? As long as I can play it on med then I'm happy, unless you suppose I should get a 9800 or an radeon instead...but I'm not a huge gamer.
8800 gtx is pretty outdated. Get a 4850.
I'm also wondering what kind of card I should get if I were to upgrade. My current one is a 8800GT and I prefer Nvidia.

As for Nvidia, look for something in the 9 series, or if money isn't a factor, a higher end GT2-3 series card would kill an 8800GT. As for me, I need a new PSU before I get a new card, my current one is only 500W, which is pretty low nowadays.
-snip-
I have a ATI HD 4850 and it runs all games great on my resolution of 1280x1024. Even runs Crysis with 22-25 fps maxed at that ress which is playable. It's a decent card, not to mention inexpensive last time I checked. I'm even thinking of buying a new mobo and crossfiring with another 4850 (my current one doesnt support crossfire :frown: ) so yeah check out the 4850 yo
i'm also wondering what kind of card i should get if i were to upgrade. My current one is a 8800gt and i prefer nvidia.
4850/4870
4770! well, or 4850. the 4770 does very well. I love mine, and its vantage score of 7000 for the GPU, compared to the 9800 GTX+s 6000 score (depends) edit: here
I just scored 7,424 on the GPU score for 3Dmark vantage with my 4770. It's better than the 9800 GTX from what it seems like. Although the test setups are different, it should not be too different. I'm running a i7 860, and they were using a Core 2 Quad QX9770. So yeah, i think its a pretty good deal!
ediT: mind you my 4770 was not overclocked.
8800 gtx is pretty outdated. Get a 4850.
The 8800GTX may be old, but it can still hold its own in games. The only downside to the card is that it's extremely power hungry and makes tons of heat.
What's the rest of your specs?
Go with ATi.
Go with ATi.
No, he should go with whatever card is best for his budget.
I say either a 4850 or 4770.
If he prefers Nvidia and he wants a decent sized upgrade for a lower price I would go with a 260 or 275, otherwise go with ATI's 4850 or 4870
8800 gtx is pretty outdated. Get a 4850.
uh that is like saying this 8800GT sucks I am getting a 9800GT OP wait for a 5770 or the like
I say either a 4850 or 4770.
A 4770 can nearly match a 4850 and uses less power. I'd suggest a 4770 if it's cheaper.
Thanks, I might update by Nov then. Like I said though, Im not really into the graphics card power so much as I want a cheap card that will play the orange box(+gmod11) on high settings. I don't play to many games so I mean the most I'll get anytime soon may be bioshock 2. If it comes down to it, I will get a 4770.

5870.

I'd say a 4670.
I'd say a 4670.
He wants to upgrade, not downgrade.
gtx 260, only around £100 now :D
Would a 4770 work okay with an Asus processor?
do you mean Asus motherboard? Asus doesn't make processors. and it would work if the motherboard has a PCI-E slot for it.

Also as some other user said above me, "being a fanboy doesn't help you here" no matter if you are an Ati or an nvidia fanboy. So don't be a fanboy cocksucker
Well its an AMD Athlon.
They need to update the notebook drivers, they are still stuck on 186 :(
I'd usually go for a 4870 - which I am going for on my new PC that I will build. It's cheap, easy and performance wise- it's excellent compared to Nviida
