Hey guys, From the 23rd of April to the 27th of April I'll be going to Washington D.C with my school to visit some landmarks and other stuff listed below. What I would like to know is what are some things I should expect from the following places:
Jefferson Memorial Old Post Office and Clock Tower J. Edgar Hoover Building US Navy Memorial National Archives Arlington Cemetery Tomb of the Unknown Soldier John F Kennedy's grave Korean War Memorial Vietnam War Memorial Holocaust Memorial 9/11 Memorial The White House The Supreme Court Capitol Hill The Washington Monument National Museum of American History National Air and Space Museum Ronald Reagan Conference Center National Art Gallery The Pentagon Old Town Alexandria National Zoo
If anyone has any experience with any of those places can you please tell me what kind of things to expect there? Thanks.
I went on a student trip but... Arlington Cemetery - Really... chilling, I guess is the right word Tomb of the Unknown Soldier - see above, wait for changing of guard if possible Korean War Memorial - Went here at night. Was creeped out Vietnam War Memorial - Probably one of the most striking because of the simplicity and amount of names Holocaust Memorial - The museum? Probably one of my favorites, it's really well done 9/11 Memorial - Wasn't built The White House - Went after inauguration, was packed, still neat to see, went when there were trucks going into the gate and security aplenty, chatted to the security gate guard, really neat funny guy. Capitol Hill - Didn't go inside National Museum of American History - I remember going here after the inauguration. Mostly for food. Good food. Everywhere else was packed. Museum was neat, not my favorite or anything, but still interesting National Air and Space Museum - Probably my 2nd favorite, plenty of interesting stuff to do/look at You didn't list my favorite place of the trip: The Newseum. Located next to Canadian embassy. (Pennsylvania Ave, pretty much in the mall) but it's the most interesting and cool museum by far in my opinion. note: I didn't read it's a school trip. If you have spare time with a chaperon or something, Newseum What do you mean what to expect from stuff? Like...?
Don't take the trip for granted. I know when I went with school I thought it was neat but never really appreciated it till a couple years later.
I live super duper close to D.C. Lemme tell you about the best Chinese restaurant in the state. It's hard to find given it's a hole in the wall and it looks sorta grimy in there, but trust me, the food is goddamn excellent. There website has the address and all that shit to find the place. http://www.chinatownexpressdc.com/Contact-Us.html Seriously man, the dumplings there are fucking incredible and the tea they have is amazing. You'll know you've found it when you see dead birds and shit hanging up with an angry guy furiously making noodles in this box window thing.
The Spy Museum is really cool, and fairly inexpensive as far as museums go. When I went a few months ago they had a huge exhibit on James Bond, so if that at all interests you I highly recommend visiting. Also definitely spend some time wandering around the National Mall.
Capitol Hill- boreing as fuck, they were in a debt crisis and the fucking pricks from texas were filibustering Korean War Memorial- chiling but awsome, also was out of the way of the construction on the reflecting ponds (don't stand by those, they smell god awful) lincoln memorial- awsome but way too packed i recomend walking the monument trail, http://www.everytrail.com/guide/national-monuments-and-memorials-tour its like a long trail but its amazing, try to find all the japanese peace pagodas, not even my history teacher knew what they were jefferson memorial- go at sunset/twilight, very cool scenic view arlington- very chilling and a very long hike through many many memorials ww1 memorial- go because its often forgotten and just got restored ww2 memorial- definatly go Smithsonian- definatly wish i had time to go see all the museums, i really wanted to go back last summer

When I went to Arlington National Cemetery, I got to participate in the changing of the wreaths. It was awesome. Expect a lot of silence when you go to memorials, you'll have the dumbass kids who will try to be loud. Try to shut them up.
