Didn't we already have a 1.8 in 2011
You know, the one that made the game boring
I hope at one point to create a FP Minecraft server again which holds a steady playercount for some time without the server being oversaturated by useless mods.
2-3 years ago there was a pretty neat server i made with a PC/Logic mod that allowed you to make massive automated structures, eventually we had massive nuclear reactors powering machinery that would just destroy all landscape for its resources, shit was awesome till a update broke the server and once i fixed it no one came back.
I'm very skeptical about this
Then download the test version and check for yourself
So does this mean the mod API is a step closer?
[editline]22nd August 2014[/editline]
You know, come to think of it, the term mod API is always being thrown around, but I honestly don't even exactly know what it is. I've been told it's gonna "be the shit for mods" but I honestly have no idea how it will work and all.
might actually check in on minecaft with this, havent given it an actual play in about 2 or 3 years, or at least since notch stopped personally working on it and handed it off to the mojang team
Oh my god who cares, the game has been carried by mods for a long time now.

From my understanding, the mod API is pretty much a tool-set/system/etc that allows people to easily create content for a game. A proper API would also help resolve the issues of game updates breaking the mods constantly.

Basically, when Minecraft updates, it wont break mods, shit that would change shit that is p. much locked out, or super hard to even access, like combat, will be able to be modded in.
Hell, if they do a modAPI, they should allow mods to report where the zip file containing the file is, run a banner ad when you download it so people don't bitch about their money, and have it download it via the client.

What do you mean? Like a Steam Workshop system with ad support? If so, I don't think people are going to be that happy with having to sit through ads for mods.
I'd love some kind of workshop thingy for minecraft.
Been a while since I played, I loaded up the latest snapshot, there are a bunch of blocks that I have no idea what they are haha
As much as I like the new content, it's starting to feel like a modded minecraft, especially with the new music.
There was a bunch of optimization with this update. Getting closer to the API.
It's taking so long because they have to document stuff they didn't write, and while doing that they rewrite some of the old code so it isn't sloppy/slow
Ok so here's basically what an api does.
An api removes all any and all surprises when programming. It can also help performance by offloading some parts of programming elsewhere.
For example in the steam api it will try to return a status, a name, steamid and avatar. It is much easier to program with without doing things like creating a system to download steam pages then go theough them until you see a name and avatar.
On MC I expect that it'll involve adding blocks and mobs without worrying about other blocks someone added.
Patch notes, it's a really big patch:

The banners actually seem pretty neat. You could make different designs for it via crafting.

People already sit through ads because the Minecraft modding community are pathetic bitchy kids who love to link to their shit through ad.fly or similar services. They're used to dealing with ads by this point I'm sure.
If you want income from your damn mod, make a game or set up a donation page. Trying to scrape pennies with ad.fly is just stupid.
maybe in minecraft 2.0 we'll get an art style that isnt garbage like how Dock was going to make it
lol j/k minecraft's aspie fanbase would throw a shitfit over it
Are they going to fix any of the underdeveloped base mechanics, or are they just going to add a bunch of new stuff? [sp]the second one[/sp]
[editline]11:37PM[/editline]
Yeah looking through the patch notes it doesn't seem like they're actually making the game any more complete that it was when it was "finished"
Minecraft: Span of an Ocean, Depth of a Puddle
Let me guess, they are adding in new blocks that are just reskins.
I bet that is the bounty they are talking about.

Or you know, you could just download one of the thousand different texture packs out there and solve this non-problem of yours.

Well, if you bothered to read the patch notes that would answer your question. But the short of it is yes and no. They added in completely new blocks altogether and added in multi-colored fences/gates/doors to match the various colors of wood.

The Minecraft community is literally the only place where I see adfly.
A large proportion of Minecraft 1.8’s man-hours over the past year have been poured into rebuilding the game’s infrastructure.
“These changes consist of large game structure changes such as replacing the hard-coded ‘block renderer’ with a system that is able to read block shapes from data files, or performance enhancements such as multi-threading the client-side chunk rendering,” wrote Mojang’s Jeb.
Say what you want about the laziness of the devs in the past, but if they deliver on this maybe minecraft will no longer be a laggy peice of shit.

ive been getting drops to a stable 30 for absolutely no reason, like at times just staring at a couple of blocks in a small hole :/
chalking it up to just more shittily unoptimized game running on java

why not try optifine
i get the same problem but with optifine i never drop below 60

The way rendering has been reworked I wouldn't be surprised if they would have to totally rewrite optifine.

My understanding is that optifine has been made obsolete, because Mojang has put everything that optifine does (performance wise) into the game already.
Maybe I'm wrong, though.
